Born in a world without hearing, without relying on a teacher, the means to manifest the ultimate existence is the nature of realizing two halves of selflessness. The definition is to desire to become a Buddha alone without generating the mind for the sake of many sentient beings. The necessity is to obtain the intermediate Bodhi that liberates from samsara. The result is two Arhats. The divisions are two types: living in groups like parrots and living alone like rhinoceroses. The parrot-like one meditates on the reverse order of dependent origination, goes to the charnel ground, and as soon as he sees the bones, he becomes disgusted and thinks: Alas! Where did these bones come from? They came from old age and death. Where did old age and death come from, etc.? After thoroughly examining the arising of dependent origination, he thinks: How can I be liberated from this? Again, the root of the reverse order of dependent origination, from the cessation of ignorance to the cessation of old age and death, is cut off. Based on the realization of two halves of selflessness, the realization of the path, such as the path of joining, arises naturally in one's own mind-stream, and at the end of the path of meditation, one manifests the two wisdoms of exhaustion and knowledge of non-arising, and attains Arhatship. The rhinoceros-like one meditates on the twelve links of dependent origination in the order of arising, with the dharmas included in the four truths as the object of focus, desiring to abandon all subtle proliferations of the three realms. That is, from the cause of ignorance arises action; from that arises consciousness, and so on until old age and death, knowing the former and latter as cause and effect. The view is that both the atom with parts and the atom without parts, which are the external objects of attachment to half of the self of the person and the self of the dharma, are non-existent. Like an image, they are realized to be without essence and unborn by nature. That is, attachment to the external object of the self of the dharma and the two kinds of consciousness that hold the internal antidote are fabricated as true. The self of the person is the dharma included in the five aggregates, which is held as the consciousness and I that should be abandoned. This is called the self of the person and the self of the dharma. The noble Hearer realizes the selflessness of the person but does not realize the selflessness of the dharma. The Solitary Buddha, on top of that, realizes the non-existence of the external object of attachment to half of the self of the dharma, but does not realize the internal attachment. If we express its nature in an easy-to-understand way, the object of grasping, the selflessness of dharma, is to meditate on all external objects as being without self-nature. The subject of grasping, the selflessness of dharma, is the ability to

The knowing of the agent is the unborn emptiness that is free from the three aspects of arising, ceasing, and abiding. This latter is realized by the Great Vehicle, and since it is not realized by the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, a slight sound is added to the selflessness of phenomena. Both types of Solitary Realizers teach the Dharma through bodily gestures, not through speech. For both Hearers and Solitary Realizers, eight inferior grounds, such as the white kasina, are taught. Based on these, there are Stream Enterers, Once Returners, Non-Returners, and Arhats. Each is divided into two, entering and abiding, so they are also known as the eight great persons or the four pairs and eight individuals. For Bodhisattvas, it is said that there are also four fruits of the ascetic on the ten grounds, such as the Joyful Ground. These are the ways in which the system of the Second Buddha is established. The term Arhat refers to the fruit of possessing two wisdoms, namely, knowing the exhaustion of defilements and the non-arising of phenomena. Thus, when the Arhats of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers pass into nirvana without remainder, they abide in the realm of cessation. Although our own system considers this to be constant and unchanging, according to the Great Vehicle, although the activity of the mind dissolves into peace for as long as the accumulations of merit have been gathered, they then take birth in the lotus womb in pure lands such as Sukhavati. Due to the power of the habits of ignorance and subtle obscurations of knowledge, the lotus remains closed for seven years. Through the compassion of the Buddhas of that land, the lotus opens, and they are awakened from that samadhi. They develop a desire to enter the Great Vehicle, and by meditating on the path, they attain enlightenment in that very lifetime. As stated in the White Lotus Sutra: "The Hearers, until the Buddhas do not encourage them, remain intoxicated and unconscious in samadhi with a single body of wisdom. Once encouraged, they arise with various forms, desiring to benefit sentient beings. They accumulate merit and wisdom, and attain Buddhahood." This is in accordance with what is also taught in the Lankavatara Sutra. Such obstacles to attaining nirvana are said to be the fourteen unanswerable questions in the world, such as: the world is permanent, the world is impermanent, the world is both permanent and impermanent.
