Oh! The great ship that crosses the ocean of birth, having obtained the waving banner of discernment, again, those who do not rejoice at the appearance of the Buddha, those who hold wrong views are tormented by demons. Some, although complete in their faculties and possessing discernment and awareness, do not rejoice at the appearance of the Buddha and hold wrong views such as "there is no afterlife," such heretics are without leisure. In an age abandoned by the Buddhas, having fallen into a dark and gloomy abyss, even if one strives to rise, it is only to fall into the constant state of non-path, going from bad to worse in a miserable fall. Thus it is taught. When the Buddha appears in the world, there is also the light of the teachings, therefore it is called the Age of the Lamp. Its emptiness is the Age of Darkness. At that time, even if one obtains a human body, one is like a person with a broken leg fallen into a deep abyss, going from bad to worse without any means of liberation, therefore it is a time without leisure. Second, the eight kinds of lack of leisure due to sudden circumstances are: In a wish-fulfilling jewel, the five poisons are in turmoil, foolishness and ignorance are seized by demons, the lazy, the ocean of evil deeds overflows, being controlled by others, fearing threats, pretending to be Dharma. The eight kinds of lack of leisure due to sudden circumstances are not vessels for the path of liberation, completely reversed. Thus it is said. Merely in appearance, having escaped from the eight places of lack of leisure in one's own continuum, although born in a place where one can practice Dharma, either because the five poisons are gross, one's continuum is associated with non-virtue, or one's own continuum is foolish and ignorant, controlled by evil friends, or one encounters evil teachers, leading to reversed views and behaviors, or one has only faith in the Dharma but is completely without diligence, a lazy person, or the ocean of evil deeds overflows, not knowing how to transform it into the path, controlled by obstacles, or one has faith in the Dharma but one's body and speech are controlled by others, or one fears food, clothing, or taxes, and although entering the Dharma, one spends one's days in non-Dharmic conduct, or one's mind is contrary to the Dharma, but one pretends to be Dharma in order to please others, seeking gain, respect, and fame. Third, the eight kinds of mind without leisure due to limited scope are: As mentioned before, holding vows but behaving extremely badly, not being weary of samsara, having no faith whatsoever, non-virtuous

Not thinking of Dharma with evil deeds, Called broken vows and commitments, Eight kinds of distractions with interrupted minds, Far from Dharma, the lamp of liberation extinguished. Thus it is said, being too attached to possessions, utensils, and relatives, and like a venomous snake, an evil person cannot generate virtuous conduct. No matter how much one hears and sees the faults of the lower realms and samsara, one never generates the mind of renunciation. The door to the appearance of Dharma, even a sesame seed's worth of faith, is absent. The three doors are not pacified, and one spends time only with evil deeds. One does not think of the holy Dharma, its qualities, and virtuous deeds, like a dog seeing a temple. Although one enters the Dharma, the Pratimoksha vows are broken, and the Bodhisattva vows are lost. Or, having received the four empowerments, one despises the Lama and Vajra brothers, and so on, the vows are broken. If one does not examine and adopt or reject these two sets of eight, then merely becoming a human is only temporary leisure, and it is difficult to be a support for Dharma practice. In particular, most people who enter the Dharma or engage in reversed actions are very far from the Dharma and turn their backs on the path of liberation. The Nirvana Sutra says: 'Good son, after the Tathagata has completely passed into Nirvana, there will be internal strife and the destruction of countries. In that evil time, due to the calamity of famine, most people will become monks and shave their heads. They will drive away the monks' discipline, rituals, merits, and perfect conduct.' Also, the Samadhi Supreme Sutra says: 'From five hundred to eight hundred years, my attendants will wear the clothes of laypeople, raise cattle, sheep, cats, donkeys, and horses, and store a lot of grain. They will cultivate their own land and eat their own food, and they will also raise male and female servants. At that time, one in a thousand will attain the four fruits of a Shramana. From eight hundred to one thousand years, my attendants will learn sinful Dharma, associate with kings, princes, ministers, and patrons, and even deceive each other, cultivate fields, and accumulate a lot of grain, gold, and silver.'
