All things that clearly sway like a string of bubbles appear to the pretas as a desolate plain violently churned by a red sandstorm. The inverted appearance of rain clouds is like this: Even if one wishes for rain clouds to rise there, from the clouds falls a rain of iron arrows, accompanied by thick smoke and sparks, like sparks flying from a blacksmith's hammer, like a golden flash of lightning splitting the sky, red and yellow lightning streaks fall like rain on the body. This blue rain cloud, which should bring joy to all farmers, sways like the leaves of a banyan tree, but to the pretas, it is like angrily smashing hailstones, from the embrace of the dark clouds falls a rain of iron arrows, accompanied by thick smoke and sparks, like sparks of molten iron flying from a blacksmith's hammer, shining like a diamond, the lightning streaks beautiful like a young woman's bracelets, but descending in the form of weapons, appearing on the body. The inverted appearance of hot and cold is like this: When tormented by heat, even a blizzard becomes harmful; when ravaged by cold wind, even fire becomes cold. Because of the complete ripening of extremely unbearable karma, one becomes confused, so to them, all these things appear inverted. That is to say, when tormented by heat, even a blizzard that brings a cold touch becomes their enemy; when ravaged by cold wind, even fire becomes without warmth, becoming a cold touch. The suffering of food and drink being obscured is like this: Because of unbearable thirst, seeing a clear river from afar, wanting to drink and approaching it, that river turns into water filled with hair, fish scales, a mixture of pus and blood, mud, blood, and filth. That is to say, one who is tormented only by thirst, seeing a river in a distant place, approaching it, upon arriving there, it is either a mirage, or hair, or fish scales, or rotten pus, or mud, or blood, or it turns into water mixed with impure things. The internal obscuration is like this: For a mouth that is only the size of a needle's eye, yet having to accommodate a stomach that is many yojanas, the wretched preta, even if drinking the water of the great ocean, cannot fill its throat, but the water droplets are dried up by the heat of its mouth.

In general, measurement is also very frightening. Why? Because in the Sutra of the Essence of the Sun, it is said: the body of a large preta is a thousand kroshas, and the smallest is a cubit high. Because they are tormented by hunger and thirst, even if they drink the water of the great ocean, their throats are as thin as a horse's tail, and the water cannot enter. The heat from their mouths will immediately dry up the water droplets, and there is no opportunity for them to enter the body. Like this, this teacher whose words are extremely pure, even the beautiful ornament of Jambudvipa, the teacher Dharmakirti, praises him. Therefore, the meanings that are only slightly mentioned in the Chinese and Tibetan commentaries are clearly explained in the word-by-word commentary. Furthermore, the pretas who wander in the sky are: body corpses, zombies, madmen, forgetful ones, yakshas, flesh-eaters, oppressors, emaciated ones, Namozhas, curse ghosts, rakshasas, tsan, kings, and all kinds of spirits. The Sutra of Minor Mindfulness states: Whoever harms children, entices them with desire, and eats their filth, will be reborn as a body corpse. Whoever destroys and gives villages, gives and harms, will be reborn as an ugly urn-shaped curse ghost, worthy of offering. Always liking incense and garlands, giving and having little anger, will be reborn as the cause of the gods' joy, a kinnara. Whoever is somewhat fond of gossip, angry and gives for need, will be reborn as an ugly flesh-eating ghost. Always very hateful and reckless, always liking to give, will be reborn as a spirit after death. Fierce, angry, and giving, people who like fine wine, will be reborn as a fierce yaksha after death, reborn as those who like wine. Whoever provides mounts for parents and teachers as they wish, they will be reborn as yakshas who wander in immeasurable palaces, possessing happiness. Due to the faults of greed and stinginess, they will be reborn as pretas after death. It is said like this. However, although urn-shaped ghosts and kinnaras are special categories of the first two desire gods, they are classified here as categories of ghosts and spirits, which should be understood.
