Exhausted from running in search of food, and terrified by the sight of men wielding swords, mallets, and ropes, appearing as executioners. The particular suffering is: those with inner obscurations have bellies as large as Mount Sumeru, mouths as small as the eye of a needle, and ugly forms. When they see food and drink, it is either guarded by others or disappears as soon as they approach it. Even if they find a little bit of vomit and unclean leftovers, they cannot eat it because their mouths are too small, causing them great suffering. As it was said before: Some have mouths as small as the eye of a needle, but bellies as large as a mountain, and are afflicted by hunger. They do not have the power to find even a little bit of unclean leftovers. Also, those with obscurations regarding food and drink, on top of the previous suffering, have fire burning in their bellies all night long. The food is like burning sand, and when it falls into their mouths, it burns inside them, causing great suffering. Some burn from their mouths at night, and seek burning sand that falls into their mouths as food. The common obscuration is: there is no flesh between their skin and bones, so they become emaciated, long, and naked, like a withered palm tree top. As it was said before: Some are skin and bones, naked, like a withered palm tree top. In particular, those who are called outcasts, the most extreme who have not done good deeds: some outcasts cannot even find pus, feces, blood, or other unclean things. They fight each other face to face, and from their throats, boils appear, and they seek the pus that ripens. They cannot find pus, blood, or feces, and even when they see each other, they fight each other in the face out of anger, hitting each other, and the boils that appear from their throats ripen into pus and drip into their bellies, which they use as food, making them very miserable. The external obscurations are: the suffering of uneven hot and cold temperatures. In the summer, even the moon is hot, and in the winter, even the sun is cold. Trees and plants with ripe fruits and bent branches disappear as if burned by fire, and rivers dry up just by looking at them. For the pretas, in the summer, the moon is hot, and in the winter, the sun is cold.

These trees without fruit, merely by looking at them, will cause rivers to dry up. Like that kind of suffering, there is no opportunity to escape, or tormented by uninterrupted feelings, people calculate months with the days and nights of pretas, even if they spend five hundred years, or fifty thousand years, they will not die, this is because they like stinginess, closely using the rope of the karma of miserliness to bind them. Uninterruptedly enduring suffering, wickedly using the rope of karma, some beings whose bodies are tightly bound, will not die for five thousand or even ten thousand years. Therefore, the various kinds of single-flavored suffering that the pretas obtain, the reason for this is that beings like stinginess, the Buddha said that miserliness is not a noble act. Here, the non-noble should be understood as having afflictions. Furthermore, here, the great teacher Chandragomin displays the suffering of pretas through four inverted external obscurations, and two differences of internal and food obscurations. Among them, the first aspect, the mountain appears inverted, as the 'Student's Book' says: Seasonal waves, wind rises and water scatters, mountain peaks become cool, sandalwood trees grow green and ascend Mount Malaya. However, for them, the forest burns, flames blaze and spread, many fallen debris make it rough. It means that the huge river is scattered by the seasonal wind, all the mountains become cool and moist, where only dense forests of sandalwood trees, growing with a cool nature, like Mount Malaya, cannot be approached by the suffering of heat, however, for the pretas, the dry forest ignites flames, the blazing flames spread, all the debris is filled with fallen debris, appearing as a hot touch. The river appears inverted: The waves of the reservoir, fearfully rising high, the foam produced from it piles up there, however, for them, it turns into a desolate land filled with red rough sand, the red wind blows pleasantly. It means that the huge reservoir, the crest of the waves of the ocean rising high
