Oh! Here, sentient beings falling is like moths falling into a flame. Here, sentient beings being trapped is like being trapped by a fishing net. Here, sentient beings revolving is like a potter's wheel. Here, sentient beings being deceived is like a swindler deceiving a child. Thus it is said. Furthermore, due to the uncertainty of enemies and friends, the causes and effects of benefit and harm are confused, and the way of suffering is: All sentient beings cannot determine who is my friend, who is my enemy, who is a relative or foe. Holding false positions of enemies and friends, giving benefits and harms is truly inconceivable. In the world, the widely known and very certain saying is: This is my friend, this is my enemy, this is the father, this is the father's side of relatives relying on lineage and bloodline, this is the mother, this is the mother's side of relatives possessing status and retinue, this is the neutral one. The neutral one is the object of abandonment, the friend is the object of benefit, the enemy is the object of punishment, sons and daughters are the object of pouring affection, one should not be attached to this place of increasing attachment. Because in the past life or the future life, the father will become the son, the mother will become the wife, the enemy will become the friend, and even the opposite change will occur. As the "Letter to a Friend" says: The father is the son, the mother is the wife, Beings who are enemies are also friends, Inverted changes also often occur, Therefore, in samsara, there is no certainty. Also, as the noble Katyayana said: When a householder begged for alms, he held the enemy who had become a small child in his lap, ate the father who had become a fish, and saw the mother who had been born as a dog biting the fish bones, so he said: Eating the father's flesh, hitting the mother, embracing the enemy of bad karma, the wife gnawing on the husband's bones, the law of samsara is laughable. Furthermore, regarding the suffering of repeated rebirths, the Blessed One said: O monks, for example, if someone takes a lump of earth from this great earth the size of a jujube seed and then throws it away, saying: This is my mother, this is the mother of my mother. O monks, the soil of this great earth will be exhausted sooner, but the mothers of people will not.

I say it is not so. As the noble teacher said, like the verses about the end of the mother, etc. In general, it is due to the fault of repeatedly abandoning various different bodies. The sole owner of a body like a dust particle, in order to become the carrier of life and desire, the head and limbs are cut and severed. If piled up, it would exceed the size of Mount Sumeru. In hell, drinking boiling molten copper, becoming a preta body, eating impure things like pus and blood. Due to various causes of suffering, tears flow. More than the rivers that converge from all directions.

Just like seeing an enemy, various weapons arising from karma cut off limbs and strike each other, leading to death. A voice comes from the sky saying, "May you be revived!" As soon as the voice is heard, they are revived and suffer as before. Regarding the lifespan there, it is said in the *Mindfulness Establishment Sutra*: Sentient beings in the Reviving Hell can endure a hundred billion human years, plus sixty thousand years, and two thousand years. It is written in the chapter on Mindfulness Near-Establishment: Whoever kills a person, or first revives them and then kills them, they will surely go to the Reviving Hell. Because there, they are bound and tormented repeatedly for many thousands of years, therefore it is called the Reviving Hell. The Black Line Hell is a place tormented by cutting wheels. There, beings who harm others are placed in frames of various shapes, lines are drawn on their bodies, and they are split and dug like wood. After being split, they are glued back together. The lifespan is two hundred and twenty billion human years, plus ninety thousand years, six thousand and twelve years. As mentioned before: Those who antagonize parents, friends, relatives, and spiritual friends, and those who speak slander and lies, will go to the Black Line Hell. Because there, black lines are drawn on them like wood, and they are split with saws and burning objects, therefore it is called the Black Line Hell. The Gathering and Crushing Hell is a hell with grinding wheels. Beings are crushed between various rocky mountains and animal heads, and similarly, they are crushed by huge iron grinders. From above, the weight of huge stones presses down on their bodies, causing their blood and water to flow like rivers. The lifespan is thirty billion human years, plus sixty-eight thousand and one years. As mentioned before: If one kills goats, sheep, foxes, pigs, rabbits, mice, deer, pigs, etc., sentient beings will fall into the Gathering and Crushing Hell. Because there, they are gathered and discarded, and then completely killed, therefore it is called the Gathering and Crushing Hell. The name is consistent with the meaning. The Howling Hell is a place where molten iron boils, filled with intense wailing sounds. Those seeking shelter there are confined in iron houses.
