Therefore, what leads to exhaustion are the ten virtuous actions and the four concentrations, the four formless absorptions, which are unrelated to liberation. The second type of person is one who generates the intention to seek the path of the Hearers, and practices from the cultivation of the first path—mindfulness—until its completion, is a lesser person. One who enters the path of the Solitary Buddha is a middling person. One who generates the intention of the Great Vehicle and practices the path is a great person. Among these, in the context of the accumulation of merit, from the verses of the 'Mindfulness,' it says: 'Whoever has no other agent, the actions of body, speech, and mind, whatever good or non-good they themselves have done, this fruit they enjoy in the world.' Thus, if the three doors turn away from the side of non-virtue, these ten virtuous actions themselves, if they are unrelated to the cultivation of concentration and formlessness, then the ripening result will be the attainment of humans in the four continents and subcontinents, and the six desire realms. In terms of ripening in the environment, as the dominant result, one will possess fields adorned with crops and fruits, free from harm, and easy to traverse, and so on. The corresponding cause is that, from the two, one engages in and delights in performing the corresponding cause of the ten virtuous actions. Experiencing the corresponding cause is longevity, freedom from illness, and great enjoyment, and so on. In particular, if the ten virtuous actions and the four concentrations are combined and mastered, one will be born in the form realm. If the connection between the ten virtuous actions and the four formless absorptions reaches its limit, one will attain the four formless realms. Therefore, the actions of projecting and completing the share of bliss are done by the ten virtuous actions. And the accomplishment of the coarse mind of concentration and formlessness is accomplished by cultivating concentration and formlessness. Therefore, whether related or unrelated to the cultivation of concentration and formlessness, those who practice the ten virtuous actions conquer the battlefield of the lower realms and enjoy the happiness of the heavens. However, if the vows are broken, that is, if one practices the non-ten virtuous actions that contradict them, then these people will only fall into the state of the lower realms. This is the teaching of the Buddha. Furthermore, some with pride act on the battlefield, and some abandon the precepts in order to dwell at home, like the royal family with a precious name. Similarly, those who give up their lives for the sake of hatred, like the wandering ascetic Saṃgha Ācārya, and those who practice austerities for the sake of jealousy, like the monk Devadatta.

Abandoning the sacred Dharma for the sake of ignorance is like a king without limbs; abandoning shame for the sake of desire is like a merchant's daughter; abandoning modesty for the sake of lust is like the son of a pleasure-seeking king, and so on. In short, in this world, people dare to give up their body and life for the sake of evil, but they are stingy even with land and water for the sake of virtue. Therefore, the lower realms are as numerous as the dust on the earth, while the heavens are as few as the dust on a fingernail. This is a great cause for sorrow in every way. Thus, even if an unwholesome action is done for the sake of others, its karmic result cannot be shared. This is because: For the sake of the object of offering, relatives, retinue, And for the sake of protecting the country, Even if the powerful twin drinkers of sin are released, The karmic result cannot be shared. Among these, the characteristic of sin is that its karmic result is naturally great, so it is exemplified by the image of an elephant. Tying it with the rope of the mind of renunciation, means acting recklessly. Needless to say, if it is done for one's own sake. Even if it is done for the sake of others, those others will not take a share of the suffering when the karmic result is experienced. In particular, the noble Three Jewels, as the object of offering, cherish sentient beings like an only child, so they are never pleased with the honor and service that arise from torturing and killing them, and plundering their lands and wealth, because proclaiming harm as Dharma is the doctrine of the barbarians. Similarly, even if it is done for the sake of relatives, like Maudgalyayana's mother, even if she committed many sins such as stinginess for the sake of her family and son, the karma ripens on the doer, so she herself was born in the lower realms, her son attained the fruit of an Arhat, and her husband was born in the Brahma realm, and so on. Furthermore, for the sake of the retinue and protecting the country, engaging in powerful actions such as warfare, is not universally applicable because the protectors are entirely those who are possessed by the mind of Bodhicitta. If the shortcomings of the ordinary person's thoughts and motivations are carefully examined, it is not protecting others, but protecting oneself, and this sin is extremely difficult to endure. That's it.
