To correct those who rely solely on the statement in the scriptures that "for the sake of uprightness, (the Buddha) abides in samsara with a constant and unchanging body adorned with the thirty-two marks," and mistakenly identify it with the "self" of the heretics, the Nirvana Sutra states: "Because all sentient beings have the potential to attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment in the future, it is called Buddha-nature. All sentient beings currently have various afflictions, therefore they do not have the thirty-two marks and eighty minor marks." These are spoken for the beings to be tamed by the intermediate turning of the wheel of Dharma, who do not rely on the final turning of the wheel and can discern the meaning of the three doors of liberation by their own power. However, those to be tamed by the final turning of the wheel cannot discern in this way and need to rely on the final turning of the wheel to seek the meaning of the intermediate turning. They believe that there is a difference between the former and the latter in terms of the sharpness or dullness of their faculties. However, the basis for this distinction is not correct. How can it be proven that all beings to be tamed by the final turning of the wheel are dull-witted? The Samgraha Sutra also praises: "The Bodhisattvas who practice and possess the six perfections are those who are born from the magical power of the Tathagata, and there is nothing faster than that." The Brahma-pariprccha Sutra states: "It cannot be said that only those with dull faculties should practice, and those with sharp faculties should not practice. Because from the first bhumi to the tenth bhumi, the Bodhisattvas will have the practice of giving, etc., and the rest are not completely without practice." This clearly illustrates this point. That is to say, the first turning of the wheel simultaneously proclaims that all phenomena such as the skandhas are truly established, thereby proclaiming the absence of self of the person; the second turning of the wheel simultaneously proclaims that all phenomena are not truly established, thereby proclaiming the absence of self of phenomena; the third turning of the wheel distinguishes and proclaims the difference between the imputed nature being unestablished, and the dependent nature and the perfectly established nature being established. Among these three turnings of the wheel, both the Great Vehicle and the Small Vehicle agree that the first turning of the wheel is provisional. Regarding the latter two turnings of the wheel, the Vijnanavada school believes that the final turning of the wheel is definitive, while the Madhyamaka school believes that the intermediate turning of the wheel is definitive. Therefore, here, for the time being, from the perspective of the causal vehicle...

The previous commitments should be maintained. As stated in the "Moon Lamp Sutra": "The realms of the world are empty. Whatever sutras I have spoken, the words and phrases are different, but the meaning is the same. It is not possible to express everything. If one becomes accustomed to one phrase, then one will become accustomed to all of them." Also, as stated in the "Unborn Sutra": "If one does not fully understand the nature of Dharma, one will not attain enlightenment through the bondage of words." Therefore, for the sutras of definitive meaning and the great yoga, which are beyond words and thoughts, although there is no limitation of the terminology of the path stage, in order to guide ordinary people, it is necessary to guide them gradually. Therefore, it should be understood that whatever conforms to this intention is not contradictory in meaning, as stated in the "Lankavatara Sutra": "So-called learning is to be skilled in meaning, not to be skilled in words." And so on. The tenets explained through the door of nominal fabrication are drawn by the mind's painter. The difference in taking birth is that from the second bhumi to the tenth bhumi, one can successively take birth as the wheel-turning king of the four continents, Indra, Yama, Tushita, Nirmāṇarati, Paranirmita-vasavartin, and from the three pure lands to the lord of the world Brahma of the first dhyana, the great Brahma, the lord of the intermediate second dhyana, and the son of the gods, the great Ishvara, the lord of the great trichiliocosm of the third dhyana. The master of the ten bhumis says in the Avatamsaka Sutra: "Those who abide in this will become the masters of the three realms." This is also said from the perspective of taking birth as their king for the benefit of other sentient beings. However, becoming their king does not necessarily mean that the bodhisattvas who abide in those bhumis are the same, because some become kings by accumulating great merit, as stated in the "Friendly Letter": "Even if one becomes a wheel-turning king, one will still become a slave of samsara again." Some are manifested by the emanation of the Tathagata, such as the wheel-turning king Urdhvaja, which has already been mentioned before. In general, from the first bhumi onwards, since one has obtained control over life, there is no self-characteristic of birth, old age, sickness, and death, but for the benefit of sentient beings, they will manifest these.
