Being completely pure, the perfection of discipline is predominant, and since it does not possess all the defilements of misconduct, the name "Immaculate" is added. As it is said in the Ornament: "Because it is free from the defilement of striving for misconduct, it is called the Immaculate Ground." The medium of the small, the third ground, the Illuminating Ground, is: In the stage of the second ground, one can equally enter into all worldly samādhis, and one cannot fully retain the meaning of what is heard, but the one on the third ground can retain what is heard, and has the distinction of having the limbs of being able to manifest samādhi completely perfected. Moreover, the austerity of enduring the manifestation of all worldly samādhis, the perfection of patience, is predominant, and because of obtaining those samādhis, there is immeasurable light of wisdom that transcends the world, so the name "Illuminating" is added. As it is said: "It is the great light of Dharma, therefore it is called Illuminating." The great of the small, the fourth ground, the Radiating Ground, is: In the stage of the third ground, even though all worldly samādhis are obtained, one repeatedly dwells on the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment as they are obtained, and one cannot abandon the mind of equanimity in entering into Dharma and samādhi, but the one on the fourth ground can do so, and has the distinction of having the limbs completely perfected. Moreover, because of constantly purifying and completely transcending the expressions of the mind, the abiding of the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment is predominant, so the perfection of diligence is predominant, and because the light of the dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, which can burn all the firewood of afflictions, shines very brightly, the name "Radiating" is added. As it is said: "Thus, the dharmas in harmony with the aspects of enlightenment, are like a light that burns exceedingly. Because it is endowed with that, that ground is called 'Radiating' because it burns the two." The small of the medium, the fifth ground, the Difficult to Subdue Ground, is: The one on the fourth ground, after contemplating the truths, does not incline towards saṃsāra, and turns away from the mind that is manifestly inclined towards nirvāṇa, and cannot contemplate the aspects of enlightenment that are grasped by skillful means, but the one on the fifth ground can do so, and has the distinction of having the limbs completely perfected. Moreover, because of repeatedly contemplating the aspects of the truths, the perfection of meditation is predominant, the aspects of enlightenment grasped by skillful means

The complete accomplishment of dwelling and meditating on the side of calmness many times is extremely difficult to subdue, hence the term "difficult to subdue" is included. In order to fully ripen sentient beings and to protect one's own mind, it is difficult for the wise to subdue, therefore it is called "difficult to subdue." Thus it is said. The middle of the middle, the sixth bhumi, the Manifest One, is that the fifth bhumi practitioner separately contemplates entering samsara and is weary of it, therefore they cannot abide in equanimity in the mind-stream without characteristics, whereas the sixth bhumi practitioner possesses the distinction of having the limbs of power fully perfected. Moreover, on this bhumi, the bodhisattva abides by meditating on dependent origination, therefore the perfection of wisdom is more prominent. Having attained abiding without characteristics, it is called the Manifest One because all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are manifested. That is: Relying on the perfection of wisdom, samsara and nirvana, both are manifested here, hence it is called the Manifest Bhumi. Thus it is said. The middle of the great, the seventh bhumi, the Far Gone One, is that although the sixth bhumi practitioner has attained abiding without characteristics, they cannot abide in equanimity in the absence of interruption, whereas the seventh bhumi practitioner possesses the distinction of having the limbs of power fully perfected to be able to abide in the absence of interruption. Moreover, having understood all characteristics as without characteristics, and not preventing the designation of characteristics, therefore the perfection of skillful means is more prominent. Being connected with the spontaneously accomplished single path, and being extremely far from samsara, it is therefore called the Far Gone One, that is: Because it is connected with the single path, it is considered the Far Gone Bhumi. Thus it is said. In the Praise of Dharmadhatu it says: Having crossed the mire of the ocean of samsara, therefore it is called the Far Gone One. Thus it is said. The small of the great, the eighth bhumi, the Immovable One, is the first of the three virtuous bhumis. From here, the transformation of the five sense consciousnesses occurs, therefore the manner of obtaining mastery over the pure buddha-fields. In the Ornament of Clear Realization it says: Because mind, grasping, and discrimination are transformed, it is therefore non-discrimination, pure lands are purified by wisdom, mastery is the state of the four aspects. Therefore, in the state of the seventh bhumi, as long as there is spontaneous accomplishment, one cannot abide in equanimity without the characteristics of entering.
