In order to incline towards the solitary Nirvana, even though the reliance on means might not seem to arise in the state of profound equipoise, in the stage of application or subsequent attainment, both means and wisdom are applied simultaneously. Therefore, it is said: "Wherever emptiness and compassion, rely on the continuum, it is the great accumulation path, from the path of application and the supreme dharma downwards, equipoise and subsequent attainment appear as emptiness and compassion." Having said that, like this, engaging in the accumulation of all merit and wisdom, such as giving, which has emptiness in equipoise and compassion in subsequent attainment as its essence, is the path of accumulation. As the basis for newly arising Mahayana bodhicitta, one who first attains Mahayana bodhicitta can enter the small accumulation path, and in terms of the difference in the way of meditation, the accumulation path has three types: great, medium, and small. In the small accumulation path, meditating on the four mindfulnesses, the first of which is mindfulness of the body, is to meditate like the sky in equipoise, and in subsequent attainment, to meditate on impurity and illusion. Mindfulness of feeling is unarisen in equipoise, and in subsequent attainment, to meditate on all feelings as suffering and without essence like a plantain tree. Mindfulness of mind is emptiness by nature in equipoise, and in subsequent attainment, to meditate on it as neither ceasing nor abiding. Mindfulness of phenomena is equality in equipoise, and in subsequent attainment, to meditate on the eight similes of illusion, and so on. Furthermore, the way to enter the four truths of the path of seeing by meditating on the four mindfulnesses in the small accumulation path. Like this, first, by knowing the body as suffering through mindfulness of the body, one enters into knowing suffering. Second, by knowing feelings as suffering, one enters into abandoning the origin. Third, by meditating on the impermanence of the mind, one enters into manifesting the cessation of the clinging to permanence. Fourth, by meditating on the selflessness of phenomena, one turns away from the clinging to self and enters into the path of meditation. As the Madhyantavibhaga says: "To turn away from bad states and the cause of existence, and as a basis, and to not be deluded, if one wishes to enter the four truths, one should meditate on mindfulness and abide closely." Thus it is. In the medium accumulation path, one does not generate non-virtuous dharmas that have not yet arisen, and one cuts off the continuum of those that have already arisen, and one generates virtuous dharmas that have not yet arisen, and one generates the virtuous dharmas that have already arisen.

To strive for growth, to counteract selflessness, and to meditate on illusions or dreams, etc., is also like that. Regarding unfavorable and favorable factors, after fully understanding all aspects, to strive to abandon negativity, four kinds of diligence will arise. Thus it is said. In the great stage of the accumulation path, the four legs of magical power are: aspiration, diligence. The four samādhis practiced by the mind, as well as magical powers, direct perception, and the eye, etc., are accomplished through the power of meditative pliancy, hence they are called the legs of magical power. As it was said before: Abiding in this pliancy, all purposes are accomplished. Thus it is said. After that, quickly joining the path of seeing with non-conceptual wisdom, therefore it is the path of joining. The basis of the body is any of the five destinies, and the basis of the mind is any of the six meditation grounds. Among them, in the two, heat and peak, there are the five faculties of faith, initial diligence, mindfulness, samādhi, and wisdom. In the two, forbearance and supreme dharma, there are powers such as the power of faith, etc., cultivating the five powers corresponding to the five faculties. As the *Madhyāntavibhāga* says: The five faculties and the five powers, and the two corresponding divisions distinguished by them. Thus it is said. Among them, generating excellent purity and destroying aspects unfavorable to the faculties, therefore it is called power. As it was said before: Generating that which corresponds to the part of liberation, mastering with desire and application, not forgetting the object, and also distinguishing non-distraction. Thus it is said. And as the *Abhisamayālaṃkāra* says: Because unfavorable aspects are weakened, these are called powers. Thus it is said. Among them, all the dharmas of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are believed in with faith in the meaning of knowing them through the two truths, delighted with diligence, not forgotten with mindfulness, one-pointed with samādhi, and cultivated in the manner of knowing their nature with wisdom. Among them, the four aspects of definite discrimination abide in twelve ways with the distinction of small, medium, and large. As the *Abhisamayālaṃkāra* says: Thus the definite discrimination aspects are small, medium, and large. Thus it is said. For these, in sequence, obtaining the vision of the Mahāyāna, and the increase of vision, and entering one aspect of the vision of dharma, and the samādhi immediately following that, are the four aspects. Among them, the first is: seeing all dharmas as merely the appearance of mind.
