Although it is determined by tenets with meanings such as non-existence, permanence, and annihilation, and one must enter the meaning of selflessness, from the perspective of the mind that measures with tenets and the characteristics of what is measured, some ancient people thought that the tenet that does not abide in either extreme or center exists in its own words, concepts, and objects of attachment, which is not good. Like a silkworm binding itself with its own silk, the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra says: "Clinging to the sound of knowing things, is like a silkworm. Children are not skilled in connecting, and are bound by their own inferior tenets." Therefore, the nature of all dharmas abides in dependent arising, which is the reality of non-arising, and thus is established in the nature of non-cessation. The Two Truths states: "The former is the cause of the latter, and because it is unborn, it does not cease." The meaning of this verse is that all dharmas from the beginning do not arise in nirvāṇa, are without self-nature, without place, without things, and without consciousness, which the Protector Maitreya has determined. Moreover, the way in which they are mutually dependent and established only from the perspective of dependent arising is that there are six non-existences: arising and ceasing, permanence and annihilation, coming and going. Difference and sameness, and neither of the two, from these eight extremes, the way in which the proliferation is pacified. The Root Wisdom says: "Whatever arises dependently, does not cease and does not arise, does not end and is not permanent, does not come and does not go, is neither different nor the same, pacifies all proliferation." Such dependent establishment, but in the ultimate truth, the way of being free from the three states of arising, abiding, and ceasing, can be known from the meaning of the consciousness of the mind-only practitioners not abiding. The Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning says: "There is no place, no object." This means that the place of the mind-only practitioners is the six senses such as the eye, the object is the objects such as form, the root is the alaya consciousness and habitual tendencies, and the dwelling place is the consciousness, these four are merely dependently arising and mutually dependent, but the sutra says: "All dharmas have no alaya consciousness." And the King of Dharma Sutra says: "Son of good family, if you wish to be liberated, cut off the branch of desire and do not have two minds."

Ma. Thinking with one mind, abandon the mind of being and non-being. The nature of the mind is emptiness. The nature of the mind neither goes nor comes, neither takes nor abandons. The name of this which has nothing is Bodhi. Therefore, both the consciousness that grasps external objects and the consciousness that clings to internal objects cannot withstand scrutiny. The nature of reality, which is emptiness in its own nature, is such that all elaborations of acceptance are naturally pacified. This is wisdom beyond the limits of thought, beyond thinking, and free from speech, thought, and expression. As Nāgārjuna's Ratnāvalī says: The entity that is accepted does not exist even as a tiny particle, because it has never been produced from the beginning, like the son of a barren woman. For example, to a barren woman, one asks, 'Where is your son?' Since she does not have one, she is unable to speak. So it is. Secondly, the dependent arising of samsara is: the appearing objects, earth, water, fire, wind, space, mountains, forests, buildings, all arise from fabricated causes. Samsara is dependent arising. Thus, in profound sutras such as the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra, the teachings concerning the ālaya-vijñāna (storehouse consciousness) are intended to first lead to the great meaning of refuting the tenets of the Tirthikas (non-Buddhists), and later, those learned in the profound meaning of the scriptures will avoid clinging to the existence of the ālaya-vijñāna. Here, for the moment, the dependent arisings of samsara refer to the ālaya-vijñāna that grasps the appearing objects during states of non-conceptual, distracted consciousness, and the consciousness that does not allow clinging to arise in clear appearances. It is on the objects of the five senses, through the dependent arising of negation, affirmation, grasping, and clinging, that the illusion of the seven consciousnesses is labeled. The five elements, mountains, forests, buildings, pottery, cloth, oil, sprouts from seeds, and butter extracted from yogurt, all material things that arise from fabricated causes are external dependent arisings, arising in a manner of mutual dependence. As it is said in the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra: Great Wisdom, just as pottery arises from a lump of clay, so too cloth from thread, oil from resin, and sprouts from seeds.
