Thus it is said. Here, if one holds onto the way things naturally are, it is the ultimate truth, beyond words, thoughts, and expressions. From the perspective of the mind, all that is examined and appears in words, thoughts, and expressions falls under the category of conventional truth. Having established this, the two truths are beyond the reach of those who realize them and the objects they realize. No one can directly perceive them, and there is neither attainment nor non-attainment. The wisdom that arises in perfect harmony with emptiness is given the label of realization. Among these, the first is the meditative equipoise of the noble ones, and on the level of Buddhahood, since no inherent nature of phenomena, such as knowable objects and knowing subjects, is established, it is completely beyond grasping and fixation. The activity of the wisdom of the knowing subject is also subtle, and all the activities of its co-emergent mind and mental factors cease. Realizing the nature of reality, which is beyond words, thoughts, and expressions, is the ultimate truth. In the Ratnakuta Sutra, it says: 'O Light-protector, the ultimate truth is emptiness, which cannot be seen by anyone, cannot be directly perceived, is not attained, and is not unattained.' Thus it is said. From the perspective of being mixed with the mind, all that is examined and appears in words, thoughts, and expressions is conventional truth, because it is established in relation to the minds of ordinary beings. This refutes both the fault of saying that all phenomena of designation are non-existent and the fault of the two truths falling into extremes on the same basis. Because the two truths are inseparable, there is a possibility that the conventional can also become ultimate. Understanding that the two truths are beyond the reach of those who realize them and the objects they realize, and that wisdom arises in accordance with the ultimate, is like the waxing moon, and the wisdom that arises in accordance with emptiness is said to realize emptiness, but it is not the realization of emptiness. Thus it is said. Therefore, the wisdom that realizes that all phenomena are non-existent in the ultimate sense does not realize that all phenomena are merely designations. Why? Because the emptiness that is intended as a non-affirming negation contradicts the affirming negation that speaks of the non-existence of things. Thus, in the vows of Avalokiteshvara, it says: 'By way of a non-affirming negation, I have merely negated the existence of the aggregates in the ultimate sense, but not by way of an affirming negation, becoming the nature of the non-existence of things.'

It is said as such. Even so, the master Dharmakīrti said, "Because the refutation of non-existence is nothing at all." Following this, there are also those who think that the view of Madhyamaka is nothing at all. If one thinks that "nothing at all" itself, and clings to it with discriminating wisdom, then it is easy to generate the coarse view that pervades like the sky, pervades like the ālaya. Therefore, the Paṇḍita of Bengal said, "Even the coarse tenet of merely admitting the ālaya as all-knowing does not exist even in external heretics." Therefore, if one knows that all dharmas are of the nature of dependent arising, that alone is the way to realize without error. What is dependent arising? It is the treasury of all dharmas. With what wisdom can one destroy it? It is the key to correct entry. Thus, obtaining instruction is the merit of the wisdom of attainment. Afterwards, with the wisdom of contemplation, realizing that dependent arising is unborn, one approaches the path of great nirvāṇa. In the Noble Great Nirvāṇa Sutra, it says, "Son of good family, all sentient beings are deluded by the four inversions of permanence, happiness, self, and purity, etc. Because of contemplation, they see impermanence, unhappiness, no-self, and impurity. By this, the four inversions can also be cut off. Therefore, by the cause of contemplation, one will approach great nirvāṇa. Thinking about the characteristics of birth, the characteristics of aging, etc., one will also be liberated. Son of good family, if one does not contemplate, then others cannot obtain virtuous dharma. What is the reason for this? Because, even if one listens to the Dharma for countless, immeasurable, and boundless eons, if one has not contemplated, one will never attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment." Thus it was declared. Therefore, with the wisdom of contemplation, examining with reason and scripture, one must discern and determine the true meaning. The profound wisdom that accords with this transcends the scope of speculation, only in this way can one distinguish its nature and differences, and practice the path of direct perception. How to practice? As shown in the Armor Discourse: "One should not view emptiness in emptiness, one should not view emptiness apart from emptiness, what is it that one views in this way?"
