When dwelling on the final bed, one dies wearing soiled clothes, and goes alone, naked. Great King! Though delighted by various qualities of desire, one will abandon all that and meet death without satisfaction. Great King! Thus, in your house, filled with incense, flowers, silk curtains, cushions, and various clothes, even if you lie on a bed with pillows on the left and right, you will inevitably be abandoned in a vast cemetery filled with crows, foxes, and repulsive corpses, your body motionless, lying on the ground. Great King! Thus, you ride on the backs of elephants and horses, rejoicing in the sweet and pleasing sounds of various musical instruments, raising banners and umbrellas, praised by kings, ministers, and friends with sweet words, and proceed while being looked upon, but before long, you will die in bed, carried by four people, with parents and siblings beating their chests and wailing in sorrow, carried out through the south gate of the city, and either buried under the ground in a desolate monastery, or eaten by vultures, crows, and foxes, and those bones either burned by fire, or thrown into water, or buried under the ground. In any case, they will be ground into powder by wind, sun, and rain, scattered in all directions, and rot away. Great King! Thus, all conditioned things are impermanent, thus, unstable! As it is said, in general, all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, especially the life of a person is impermanent, and particularly the basis of the connection between body and mind is impermanent. Just as villages, towns, and monasteries that were once prosperous and flourishing are now empty and ruined, one's own body is like a village and town, and the mind is the master of those, so the nature of both the dependent and the dependence having disappeared should be well contemplated. My dwelling and shelter are also gradually decaying, and will eventually reach a foundation where even birds cannot build nests. Without having to wait long, a sudden and violent cause of death will abandon this world's appearance, enter the long path of the afterlife, lie on the final bed, consume the last food, and speak the last words.
