From the 'Compendium of Training' by the noble teacher Shantideva: These teachings without essence, arise entirely from conceptualization. Whatever is conceptualized is also emptiness. Thus, emptiness is liberation. Just as when a great ocean is empty, there is no arising of waves. Similarly, various kinds of consciousness, do not engage where there is no entity. Therefore, although the objects to be measured arise from the nature of the measurer as the first conceptualization, when the nature of what is conceptualized is realized as emptiness, the term liberation is established. When there is no source of waves, the name wave also does not arise. As previously stated: When one sees the true meaning, at that time the yogi abides in equipoise, there is no conceptualization, no speech, and no doubt in what one has seen. Like the nature of space, in which there is no slightest discrimination, similarly, this dharma is consciousness, there is no slightest knowing. Arising and abiding, appear to foolish children, but when viewed with wisdom, there is no birth or abiding. And so on, extensively explained. Therefore, promising on the nature and, the object of acceptance, the taker and, the act of taking, without any grasping, merely measuring with a mind possessing consciousness, and adding the fabrication of no arising and ceasing, one cannot be liberated from the dangers of permanence and annihilation. Therefore, the conventional ultimate truth, and birth and cessation, etc., all extremes of elaboration, separate from the person who acts, liberation in the nature is the non-conventional ultimate truth. In the Two Truths it says: The negation of birth, etc., is also in accordance with reality. In the unborn, where all elaboration is pacified, the name ultimate truth is established. Thus, the two truths are also taught for the benefit of sentient beings, with skillful means. From the perspective of entities, there is no difference like the horns of a buffalo. The union of appearance and emptiness, the blending of the two truths, is like the manifestation of the moon entering a pond. From the perspective of appearance, it is the conventional truth, and the unestablished nature is the ultimate truth. The establishment of the conventional, like the manifestation of the moon entering a pond, is conventionally established from the perspective of appearance when seen, but, the moon is not true, from this perspective, it is equal in the ultimate, that

Just as the reflections of two moons in water appear without mixing in a pond, experiencing the nature of the union of the two truths, which are nominally the same but essentially different, is called the realization of the two truths. That is to say, from the perspective of one's own mind, the part that transcends the world is the ultimate truth, and the part that remains in the world is the conventional truth. As it is said in the Great Nirvana Sutra: Manjushri Kumara asked: "World Honored One, what is the meaning of conventional truth and ultimate truth? Is there no conventional truth in the ultimate truth? Is there ultimate truth in the conventional truth? If it exists, then the two truths become one. If it exists, then wouldn't the words of the Tathagata become false?" The Buddha replied: "Noble son, conventional truth itself is the ultimate truth." "World Honored One, if that is so, then there are two truths." The Buddha replied: "Noble son, those skilled in means have spoken of two truths for the benefit of sentient beings." "Noble son, in terms of speech, there are two kinds, namely worldly dharma and transcendental dharma." "Noble son, the wisdom of a transcendental being is the ultimate truth, and the wisdom of an ordinary person is the conventional truth." So it is said in the sutra. Among them, the so-called wisdom of an ordinary person, as it is said in the Ratnakuta Sutra: Just as there are no traces of birds in the sky, sentient beings are also originally without existence. Like looking at the hair of a frog, so one should contemplate the nature of peace. Like the image in a mirror, the wise say that its nature is empty. So it is said. Even so, temporarily, the cognition of the five objects of sense, like unmixed colors. Taking hold of a part of the enjoyment of desirable objects such as form. With regard to this, the discriminating thoughts of grasping and rejecting. Contemplate the illusory appearances as the eight similes of illusion. Thus, on the path practiced with faith and desire, the phenomena that appear, namely the five desirable objects of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, the mind of the object-possessor enters into them, and the illusory appearances of discriminating thoughts of grasping and rejecting arise, contemplate their appearance as the eight similes of illusion, but without inherent existence. By thus familiarizing and realizing, one is liberated from the city of existence, which is the beginning of the path of liberation.
