The way to measure with what I possess. Oh, son of the monastic Sharadvati, these are the four reliances of the Bodhisattvas, which are inexhaustible. What are the four? They are as follows: Rely on the meaning, not on the words; rely on wisdom, not on discriminating consciousness; rely on the sutras of definitive meaning, not on the sutras of provisional meaning; rely on the nature of reality, not on the individual. Thus it is said. Among these, "words" refer to worldly dharmas, and "meaning" refers to that which transcends them. "Discriminating consciousness" refers to that which closely approaches and abides in form, feeling, perception, and mental formations. "Wisdom" refers to the complete understanding of the aggregate of discriminating consciousness that abides in the four aggregates. Provisional meaning is taught for the purpose of entering the path. Definitive meaning is taught for the purpose of entering the fruit. "Nature of reality" refers to immutability and so forth. "Individual" refers to abiding in the view of seeing an individual, having inconceivable distinctions, which is taught by the sixth chapter of that sutra. In short, those that mainly teach the abiding nature of reality are called sutras of definitive meaning. In order to enter that nature, all teachings that guide the minds of sentient beings with various methods, and that explain impure delusions and their various distinctions, are called dharmas of provisional meaning. This is regarded as the mirror for viewing the scriptures and the first key for unlocking them. Furthermore, in order to clarify these natures and to realize the intention of the meaning, two kinds of intention and hidden meaning are explained. First, intention: There are also slightly fabricated statements, and for the sake of taming beings, sometimes straightforward words are spoken, not just for one purpose, but with necessity and conditions, thus showing four kinds of intention. Having clearly divided in this way by the nature of the text, the first aspect is that the meaning to be explained is not completely and truly fulfilled, so it still remains on the basis of intention. For the benefit of others, it does not change according to the literal meaning. There are four ways of understanding, as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: Equality and different meaning, Likewise, different time, And the intention of the individual, Know these as the four intentions. In order to enter these intentions.

RA. The meaning of equality is also shown as one. If referring to other meanings, it shows non-establishment. If referring to other times, it shows effortless Buddhahood. If referring to individuals, it disparages their holding as supreme. Among these, referring to equality means that because the truth is not seen, in the appearance of those who see water reflections, samsara and nirvana, good and bad, and the characteristics of what should be taken and abandoned exist in extreme contradiction. However, that is also the reality of all phenomena, being equal without one or otherness in the state of naturally pure essence. As the Noble One said in the "Five Hundred Verses": "Everything is of the nature of space, space also has no nature, by practicing the nature of space, all supreme equality is perfected." Thus. Referring to other meanings means that the imputed is without inherent existence, not established in the ultimate sense, and that the dependent is without arising inherent existence, the way in which arising is not established from the four possibilities. Thus, there is no arising from oneself, because the arising of what has already arisen is momentary and contradictory to substance, and there is no arising from others, because others and self are not established when examined. Arising from both is also not established because of the contradiction of substance, and if there is no cause, the result of arising is cut off. How the arising that corresponds to appearance and measure is only like a dream or illusion, appearing from dependent origination. As Manjushri said in the "Dream Sutra": "Manjushri, a dream appears but is not existent. Likewise, all phenomena appear but are not existent." And so on, extensively taught. In the perfectly established, there is no ultimate inherent existence, because one abides in the ultimate nature of self, and because there is no nature of elaboration such as impurity. The meaning of that is also as in the "Explanation of Intentions Sutra": "Intending the non-inherent existence of characteristics, the non-inherent existence of arising, and the non-inherent existence of the ultimate, I have taught that all phenomena are without inherent existence." Thus it is taught, and it should be known that this is the great pivotal point of the definitive sutras, the very nature of reality. Referring to other times, such as: "Whoever holds, speaks, or reads this "Prayer of Good Conduct," the Buddha knows its ripening, do not doubt the supreme Bodhi." And so on, only by that, without relying on other causes and conditions, one will not touch Bodhi, but previous virtue
