Thus it was declared. Among the six superknowledges, the Treasury of Knowledge states: "Miraculous power, divine ear, and mind, Former lives, death and birth, and exhaustion, Should be known as the preliminary realm." Therefore, knowing the realm of miraculous power, knowing the ears of the gods, knowing the minds of others, knowing the wisdom of remembering former lives, knowing the wisdom of death and birth, one should know the exhaustion of defilements as a preliminary practice. Regarding worldly meditation, the approximation of the first dhyana involves investigation and analysis. The actual practice is without investigation but only analysis. In the remaining three, both investigation and analysis are absent. The former serves as the approximation for the latter. It is known as the basis for the noble path. Among these, there are two ways of engaging: engaging with form and engaging without form. Engaging with form refers to the four dhyanas of learners and ordinary beings, their approximations, and entering into samadhi through their power. With aspiration, possessing the limbs of enlightenment, not being the cause for accomplishing the peak of existence, possessing equanimity, and possessing investigation and analysis, this is the approximation of the first dhyana, the mind of application. Furthermore, having transcended desire and sinful dharmas, possessing investigation, analysis, joy, and bliss, at that time it is called the first dhyana. From that, without investigation and only with analysis, it is said to be the distinguished mind of the first dhyana. When one is free from investigation and analysis, free from the desire of the first dhyana, possessing joy, bliss, and complete inner pacification, at that time it is called the second dhyana. Having separated from the desire of the second dhyana, possessing bliss, equanimity, mindfulness, and awareness, at that time it is called the third dhyana. When one is free from the desire of the third dhyana, neither suffering nor pleasure, possessing equanimity and mindfulness, at that time it is called the fourth dhyana. The approximations of the latter three dhyanas, as explained in the Earth Chapter, are made by each of the preceding ones. Similarly, the four formless absorptions and the cessation absorption, these nine, are merely the basis for the noble path.

Yes. To attain these samādhis, there are six obstacles: laziness and forgetting the object, sinking and excitement, non-application and application. To counteract these obstacles, one should cultivate the eight abandonments, namely: faith, aspiration, effort, and pliancy. These four are the antidotes to laziness: faith with great confidence in the qualities of attaining samādhi, and diligence initiated by desire. By its power, the mind becomes workable. Then, through the pliancy of body and mind, laziness is reversed. Similarly, mindfulness is the antidote to forgetting the object, and vigilance is the antidote to excitement. Reflection is the antidote to non-application, and equanimity is the antidote to application. If one possesses these eight abandonments, samādhi becomes workable, and all qualities such as supernormal powers can be accomplished. Therefore, it is also said in the Sutra Pitaka: "One should cultivate the feet of miraculous power that possess the eight abandonments." Thus it was declared. Transcendental, the meditation that generates all qualities, is seized by compassion and supreme wisdom. Possessing many samādhis, accomplishing all aspects. Yogis with a single essence of mind, abandon the grasper and the grasped. Transcending the union of calm and insight, obtaining vast freedom. It exists universally up to the seventh ground. It does not desire the world, possesses the limbs of enlightenment, and abandons existence. Therefore, relying on the samādhi that distinguishes meaning well, accomplishing the special samādhi of the Tathāgata, which arises from the practice of yoga that unites calm abiding and insight. As it is said in the Noble Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra: "Maitreya, all virtuous dharmas, whether mundane or supramundane, of the Śrāvakas, Bodhisattvas, or Tathāgatas, should be understood as the fruit of calm abiding and insight." And: "All the various samādhis of the Śrāvakas, Bodhisattvas, and Tathāgatas that I have shown should be understood as being encompassed by calm abiding and insight." Therefore, all the doors of samādhi are encompassed by the union of calm abiding and insight. That's it.
