Since liberation and the attainment of omniscience have not been achieved, one should not abandon sentient beings in thought until one's own benefit is accomplished. From the aspect of contentment, one should abandon worldly knowledge like severing ties with all childhood friends, and go to forests and solitary places to practice meditation. Even so, one has not accomplished one's own benefit. And I will not change for that matter. One should stray far from children. It is like that. Then, to point out the faults of places. Places are worse than poison, their results are coarse. Even though the taste of craving is enjoyed for a moment, it cannot be cured by supreme mantras and medicines, not just for one lifetime, but for all lifetimes. For someone whose mind is like an untamed elephant, there is no illusion of deception greater than places. Until the aggregates of existence are placed on a bier, one should attend to peaceful forests. Moreover, merely desiring places agitates the six senses, thereby binding one in the prison of samsara with its iron chains, causing virtuous actions to be wasted. The fault that desires, like salt water, lead to a state of insatiability no matter how much they are indulged in, arises from relying on places, as has been said before. Like this, the power of poison only makes the body of one lifetime uncomfortable, but cannot harm other lifetimes. Moreover, if used skillfully, it can be transformed into essence and medicine. The faults of the five objects related to desire are that, when indulged in for a while, they appear as virtues, like tasting delicious food, but in reality, they become the cause of generating all kinds of faults, and cannot even be cured by mantras and medicines. The Student's Letter says: Objects and poison are the same, pleasant only when first tasted. Objects and poison are the same, unbearable because their results are coarse. Objects and poison are the same, obscured by the darkness of delusion. Objects and poison are the same, difficult to resist and wavering. If objects and poisons are examined with certainty by the mind, then poison is easier to deal with, not the unbearable nature of objects. Poison only becomes poison in one lifetime. Objects can also become poison in future lives. Poison, when mixed with poison, becomes completely pacified. Supreme mantras and antidotal medicines

Can be cured. Poison, if used skillfully, can also benefit people, But a place of great poison is never like that. And, showing the fault of having an object of desire also says: Just as a baby elephant is born from the mouth of a deep well, Its mind becomes attached to a few blades of grass, Like falling into a cliff without achieving gain, The desire for a happy life in the world of sustenance is also like that. Like a baby elephant born at the mouth of a deep well, coveting a few blades of grass, before the grass even reaches its mouth, it falls into the cliff and dies. Similarly, the fault of being attached to the world's desires and clinging to external objects is similar to that. Not only will one not achieve a good rebirth in the next life, but one will also fall into the lower realms, which is a great battle. Therefore, it is also said in the Letter to a Friend: Those who are always unstable and wavering towards the six sense objects, Compared to those who conquer the enemy in battle, The wise praise them as the greatest heroes. Therefore, compared to conquering the enemy on the battlefield, the wise and intelligent first conquer their own senses and overcome them, which is said to be the greatest of heroes. Therefore, for the mind-elephant that is interdependent with the sense objects, untamed and unpacified, and extremely ignorant, there is nothing more effective than using deceptive illusions. Therefore, one should lead the yoke of the aggregates of existence to the peaceful forest and engage in meditating on contemplation. As it says in the Words of Seclusion: Until four men carry the body, On the bier, Before that, one should go to a secluded place, And practice peaceful samadhi. Thus it is said. What are the merits of going to the forest? The remote borderlands and pastures are pleasing to the mind, and sorrow increases, Away from the evil friends of commerce and agriculture, One is not burdened by taxes and levies, There is no unpleasant sound of birds and animals, Clear water and abundant fruits are available for use, The caves in the rocks and the houses made of leaves are spacious and comfortable, The shade of the trees is cool and pleasant, When will I be able to dwell together with them? Here, the remote borderlands refer to the place where the village ends, and the pasture or monastery is at least a secluded place far from human habitation. There, for those who are weary of samsara, it is pleasing to the mind, and sorrow naturally arises.
