Even if rain of nectar falls, it will not satisfy those with desires. Therefore, if one abandons the source of all desires—the household—that suffering will cease. So, even in the monastic life, one should be cautious to avoid unconsciously developing attachment as if it were a household, and strive to reduce activities. This is extremely important in the degenerate age. The teaching that wealth is the source of suffering is as follows: Valuable things filled with clouds of deceit, the more wealth one has, the more suffering one experiences. Saved possessions are lost due to harm from enemies and thieves. Contentment is the peak of wealth. Among these, worldly enjoyments, such as business, must be obtained through many deceitful actions, thus causing one to lose morality. Deceit refers to a cunning mind, and falsehood refers to having the intention to deceive others. The combination of these two is like experiencing the feeling of a summer day filled with dark clouds. Constantly tormented by desires, greed grows, and one becomes accustomed to stealing secretly. Accustomed to lying, and wholeheartedly wanting only oneself to win, the bodhicitta quickly declines. Robbing, harming other lives, enslaving servants and livestock, making them suffer on long and treacherous roads, etc. In short, almost all of the ten non-virtuous actions are unconsciously experienced, thus the karmic result is very dark. Even if one becomes wealthy, one is not content. There are many enemies and thieves. Fearing the decrease of possessions, hoping for increase, fighting and arguing with others, etc., the more wealth one has, the greater and more numerous the sufferings. As it was said before: Because of wealth, there is fighting; without wealth, there is no fighting. From completely abandoning wealth, happiness increases more than a water bird. For example, when a water bird catches a fish, it is chased and fought over by other water birds until it abandons the fish. As soon as it abandons the fish, the fighting stops, and it lives in peace. Similarly, the more worldly enjoyments one has, the greater the suffering of fighting and arguing. Completely abandoning worldly enjoyments eliminates the torment of suffering and obtains happiness. Therefore, those without wealth are the opposite, and because of fewer activities, it is easier to accomplish meditation.

Furthermore, especially, among all riches, contentment is the best. The teacher of gods and humans said this. Always be content, if you are content, even without wealth, you are truly rich. As mentioned before. The faults of associating with ordinary people are: The nature of ordinary people is childish, and childish people are covered by clouds of sin. They praise themselves and spread bad rumors about others, relying on the harsh words of affliction, thinking that wavering wealth is eternal, ungrateful, distorting the image of satisfaction, the sparks of resentment are blown by the wind of slander, like monkeys giving various harms, like crocodiles expanding the belly of sin, like venomous snakes destroying all who meet them, like fire burning the trees of virtue, one should stay away from the friendship of childish people. Because the nature of childish ordinary people is full of afflictions, they consider their own faults as virtues. They are also good at proclaiming the virtues of others as faults. Because they cannot control their afflictions, they will increase the harsh and sinful Dharma. They also think that the nature of samsara is wavering and painful, and is eternal and happy, so they always strive to abandon the cause of virtue and peace. The "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way" says: Associating with childish people will inevitably lead to unwholesome things such as praising oneself, slandering others, and liking the words of samsara. In particular, they are ungrateful, so they repay kindness with harm, they have all kinds of desires, so there is no time for satisfaction. It is difficult to control them whether they are enemies or friends. The "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way" says: In a moment they become friends, and in a moment they become enemies, they get angry at difficult things, so it is difficult to satisfy ordinary people. Similarly, they like resentment and discord, so they do not maintain mindfulness, and do not cling to harmonious groups, so a great wind of slander will blow. Like monkeys, all actions will become the root of harm. If they gather together, they will fight, compete and quarrel. Even if two people gather together, they are the root of jokes and laughter. The Blessed One said in the sutras: Many people
