Just as an elephant scorched by the sun enters a lotus-adorned lake without hesitation in the heat of summer, striving diligently without satisfaction will cause transcendental diligence to arise in one's own continuum. As stated in the Tenth Chapter of the Earth Store Sutra: "Transcendental diligence is when a Bodhisattva, with great diligence, eliminates all afflictions, karma, and suffering for all sentient beings with an equal mind, engages in activities without objects of focus, and initiates diligence with a non-abiding mind. One initiates diligence without abiding in the three realms. Diligence that does not discriminate regarding the ripening fruit, and diligence that does not abide in gain or loss. This is transcendental diligence." Now, to begin explaining the Paramita of Dhyana (meditation), first, the causes and conditions for accomplishing Dhyana are shown, and first, the qualities of the forest are explained: The forest is a medicinal land where flowers thrive, relying on great faith and tranquility. It has beautiful rocky cliffs and stables, adorned with young wild animals. There, all the ground is covered with green grass and clusters of shrubs, and the forest, like the neck of a peacock, is adorned with flowers from various kinds of trees and saplings, making the surroundings beautiful. The sound of cool springs is not too harsh, falling onto good platforms, making a pleasant sound. The distinction between hills and valleys becomes smooth. In suitable places, there are lakes, ponds, pools, and reservoirs, as well as slow-flowing rivers, which are harmless and surrounded by green meadows, where mandarin ducks swim in pairs, behaving peacefully. It is filled with the buzzing sound of bees. In between, there are good rocky cliffs like stacked layers, with smooth surfaces and glossy colors, with natural caves and bird shelters, and the shape of stables, where beautiful and pleasant birds and wild animals are, getting along well, without anger or harmful thoughts, loving and peaceful, and the nature of meditation naturally blends into my continuum.

It brings peace. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: In the forest, birds, deer, and trees do not proclaim unpleasant sounds. When will I dwell together with those who are happy in companionship? Having settled in a cave or an empty temple, under a tree, when will I not look back and dwell without attachment? So it is said. Furthermore, the delightful forest is like the girdle of a goddess. When the half-net of young cottonwood sways, the cuckoos, not frightened by doubt, spread letters of renunciation of samsara. Thus, the summits of the mountains are adorned with crowns of moonlight, and on the necks, like a brocade spread of good green grass, the beautiful rain clouds are necklaces, and the tender branches of the non-stony forest, filled with the vigor of youth, are adorned with fragrant leaves and flowers as earrings. The girdles of those trees, connected by young cottonwood in a continuous manner, forming nets and half-nets, when one sees the gentle wind swaying and moving, the king of the winged creatures, the tender and supple youth, the coral's enticement trembling and flickering, and the groups of cuckoos also swaying with the nature of samsara. To destruction, mutation, the nature of instability, revealing new letters of renunciation, thereby encouraging meditators to strive diligently. As it is said in the Suhrllekha: Adorned with a full moon, the necklace entwined with dense rain clouds, in the open space of the forest on the mountaintop, without attachment, the nature of swaying like the wind is the fortune of a long life. Thus, the teacher Hero said: Bees, full and buzzing, sing, tree branches dance, birds utter sweet sounds, cool breezes gently blow in all directions, mountain streams murmur, beautiful wild animals run and circle, flowers seem to smile, sandalwood and other fragrances abound. With such qualities of a solitary place, benefiting oneself and others, not expecting any reward, with many friends, why would a yogi be weary? Ordinary worldly people are not like that. So it is said. To go to such a forest.
