Will quarrel. The two will also quarrel. Like a young woman's bracelets, only being alone can bring peace. Like a young woman's bracelets, for example, when a young woman is grinding sandalwood, she feels uncomfortable with many bracelets on her arm, so she gradually takes them off, leaving only two, but they still collide with each other, making her uncomfortable. Only when there is only one bracelet left will she feel comfortable. Similarly, in a monastery, if you are with friends, quarrels will occur. Being with two people will also become a source of trouble. Therefore, living alone is praiseworthy. This is what Master Danaśīla said. In particular, nowadays, sentient beings in the degenerate age are tormented by the demons of the five degenerations, and they harm others through the three doors of body, speech, and mind for no reason, slander the Dharma and the Sangha, and like to divide into factions. Even if they protect their own faction, they cannot get along with others. Therefore, the king wrote: The more benefits you give, the more harm you will receive. Having it brings sadness, and losing it brings pain. If you associate with others, you will expose shortcomings and cause quarrels. This is the nature of sentient beings. Furthermore, for those who are not equal, jealousy arises; for those who are equal, harmful thoughts arise; for those who are inferior, belittling arises. If they see others possessing wealth and being praised and respected, they become arrogant. Even if they hear a little bit about their own shortcomings, they become angry. They like killing, robbing, and hunting, and their sinful stomachs are bigger than crocodiles. There is little meaning, but many things to do. They are distracted, like noise, and are full of sin and non-virtue. Like poisonous snakes, they harm everyone they meet. Associating with such people, becoming friends with them, or relying on them is like burning down the trees of merit with fire, and one will naturally degenerate from the Dharma. Śāntideva said: If you say something beneficial, they will get angry. I will also prevent them from gaining benefits. Do not listen to those people's words, anger will lead to falling into evil realms. They are jealous of those who are higher than themselves, compete with those who are equal, are arrogant towards those who are lower than themselves, become proud when praised, and become angry when they hear unpleasant words. When will one be able to obtain benefits from children? Therefore, relative to the noble ones, all beings with afflictions are considered to be like children. The nature of ordinary people is difficult to please, and I cannot fulfill their wishes. Relying on them, I...
