That. Acting bravely with compassion, it is said that truly upholding it is the first. Thus it is. The extent of such armor-like diligence that does not regress is also that from beginningless samsara until today, calculating the changes of years and months in continuous days and nights, it takes one hundred trillion eons to produce one sentient being with bodhicitta and to see one Buddha. It takes one kalpa like the sands of the Ganges River to understand the realm and behavior of one sentient being, and it is necessary to understand the minds and behaviors of infinite sentient beings only in this way. Although this is the case, the mind does not shrink back. This is for the sake of firm armor, as taught by the questioning of Inexhaustible Wisdom. Abiding in such diligence, remembering the Buddha and other authors, even demons cannot find an opportunity. This principle is what the daughter Good Wisdom asked. For those who desire to realize the Dharma, diligence abides, remembering the Buddha, completely dedicating, confessing, and prostrating, demons will not find an opportunity in this. Thus it is. Having strengthened the armor-like diligence in this way, among the two activities that are started for what purpose, the diligence of application is, all the places where virtuous dharmas are gathered, that is, relying on the six or ten perfections in this way, the ten bhumis are completely perfected and purified, as stated in the Question of Understanding: For the sake of the wisdom of knowing everything and completely gathering sentient beings, one should cultivate the perfection of generosity, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, and the perfection of meditation. Everything is preceded by wisdom, realizing wisdom, and after completely gathering with wisdom, dedicating it to the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. Thus it is said. The diligence of benefiting sentient beings is the cause of accomplishing the benefit of both oneself and others, therefore, in the eleven places of benefit, the body strives, the speech is diligent, and the mind is extremely diligent. For example, the merchant beggar gives, in order to eliminate the poverty of sentient beings, he takes jewels from the Jewel Island into the sea.

Like trying to dry up the ocean by scooping out water with one's palms from a deep abyss, one should not go back on the initial vows, nor abandon or regress midway. Just as one would not be lazy or complacent in trying to extinguish a fire on one's head or remove a poisonous snake from one's lap, one should abandon all obstacles and adverse conditions to diligence, gather a host of supportive forces, and engage in great endeavors. Moreover, it cannot be accomplished without relying solely on mindfulness and awareness, like a vessel filled with a small amount of water, with a sword held and standing guard, like threatening to kill a Bon practitioner, a practitioner should be so strict. As it is said. If one thinks that achieving Buddhahood requires enduring unbearable hardships, especially if one has to give up one's head and limbs, one cannot do such a thing. Then, for sentient beings who have not entered practice and remain at ease, they also experience unspeakable suffering due to the faults of karma, such as being beheaded, limbs torn apart, bodies pierced, bound and burned, which is obvious. In that way, neither one's own benefit nor the benefit of others is accomplished. Then, for companions who are together in samsara, enduring suffering for the sake of enlightenment is in accordance with the strength of a great person's wisdom and can be accepted, because the suffering is small and the need to accomplish the benefit of oneself and others is great. If one says, 'But I am afraid to have to give up my hands and feet,' without weighing the heavy and the light, I, in my ignorance, am simply afraid. For countless eons, being cut, pierced, burned, and skinned many times will not lead to enlightenment. The suffering of my practice of enlightenment is limited, like inflicting wounds on the body to eliminate pain, internal damage, and harm. All doctors will also treat and eliminate diseases that cause discomfort. Therefore, in order to destroy many sufferings, one should endure small discomforts. Like that. Therefore, if one thinks that the path of the perfections requires giving up body and life, and that it is a difficult place to practice, and one becomes afraid, it is because one has not understood deeply. There is no firm commitment between the arising of the thought that it is difficult to do.
