In short, without the three austerities of patience, it is impossible to accomplish the other five, such as generosity and discipline, as they are. For example, if one enters a road surrounded by enemies and wild animals without the help of an army, it is difficult to reach the desired place. Those such as generosity are also closely related to their respective opposites, so all those faults can be guarded by relying on the three austerities of patience, so one should generate the power of wisdom. The perfection of diligence is: diligence without delay, like a free goose entering the Dharma and gardens, entering without passing through the cliff of laziness. The nature of diligence is the single-mindedness of rejoicing in virtue without delay. For example, in a desolate monastery or a place full of fear, a pair of male and female swans who have laid eggs and are saddened, when the chicks' abilities are complete, single-mindedly go to the garden, not interrupted by laziness or hesitation. In the teachings of the three vows, it is said: Supreme enlightenment is achieved through effort; if it were not so, rabbits and cats would also attain enlightenment. You should be homeless and unmixed, and do not collect cattle and donkeys. Do not take the place of laziness. Abandon unwholesome dharmas and be diligent in wholesome dharmas. Kasyapa. I praise dwelling in virtue in many ways and abandoning noise. Furthermore, showing the abandonment of its opposites is: entangled by the ropes of evil deeds, attachment, and noise, suppressed by the power of laziness, also abandoning the ability to strive, despising oneself, being discouraged, and taking false asceticism, such a person rides on the boat of sin. In this regard, we have heard and promised to practice many scriptures of the Great and Small Vehicles, but in reality, everything that arises from generosity, arises from discipline, and arises from meditation, that is, all the burdens of the fruits that ripen from the great earth of virtue, because of laziness, do not give assistance, and are greedy for sleep.
