Even if widely known in the world, engaging in inverted diligence that is unsuitable here, clinging to evil deeds, is like the potency of sesame oil being mixed into a container. Enjoying worldly affairs such as commerce and agriculture is like a silkworm entangling itself in its own cocoon. Becoming discouraged at the slightest sight of difficulty, thinking that this task will surely not succeed, thereby destroying the power of the mind and also losing ability due to one's own actions. Because of despising oneself, the opposing side collapses, and the mind is filled with discouragement, accepting the conduct of shrinking back, etc., these become containers for many faults, like riding on a leaky iron-nailed boat. Even a small adversity becomes an obstacle to it. If one is weak, even a small downfall will cause harm. For those who abandon effort with discouragement, where is there an opportunity to be liberated from poverty? So it is said. In particular, initially making a vow, but then habitually abandoning it midway, the corresponding result of this action will cause sin to increase in this life and suffering to increase in future lives, and any initiated task will not succeed. It is best not to start, but once started, do not turn back. In future lives, one will become accustomed to this behavior, sin and suffering will increase, and the timing of others and results will also become inferior, and that thing will not succeed. So it is said. In general, the activity of Dharma is solely to prevent faults and accomplish qualities, and in particular, the object to be accomplished on the path of the Great Vehicle seems to be a difficult place even to rely on intelligence. When someone like me becomes discouraged thinking that I cannot accomplish this task, or when the mind is suppressed by adversities such as despising oneself, if even those ignorant and weak inferior beings generate the power of diligence, it is said that they can attain Buddhahood. Since I have obtained such a supreme support of higher realms, what difficulty is there in accomplishing great things? One should elevate one's spirit, as stated in the "Questions of Excellent Arm" and the "Entering the Dharma Realm Chapter" of the Avatamsaka Sutra. The Bodhicharyavatara says: Do not be discouraged by thinking, "How can I attain enlightenment?" Because the Tathagata speaks truthfully, and this truth is clearly proclaimed.

Oṃ. Flies, flesh flies, bees, and any beings that become insects, if they can generate the power of diligence, they can attain the unsurpassed Bodhi that is difficult to obtain. We who are born as humans, able to distinguish between benefit and harm, if we do not abandon the practice of Bodhi, why can't I attain Bodhi? Thus it is said. In the Ratnavali, it says: Therefore, it is said that it takes a long time to become a Buddha, the wise will not be lazy, in order to eliminate faults and achieve merits, one should always be diligent in this. Thus it is said. In order to distinguish the nature of diligence, destroying the four maras is armor diligence, walking the ten bhumi path is application diligence, not fearing, not retreating, and without contentment, the diligent one will accomplish all wishes. Thus it is said, in the Compendium of Abhidharma it says: To be delighted in armor, application, not fearing, not retreating, and not being content. Among them, armor diligence is: Bodhicitta A Bodhisattva, before being diligent and striving in any application, must first put on strong armor, and must not be satisfied with mere superficial actions of body and speech, but must vow not to shrink back no matter what obstacles are encountered. For example, even if I have to stay in hell for countless eons in order to eliminate the suffering of one sentient being and finally attain perfect Bodhi, I will not give up diligence. How much more so, then, should I not easily abandon my armor when other sufferings are smaller and the time is shorter? One should show courage in this way. In the Explanation of Akṣayamati Sūtra it says: Relying on strong armor, Bodhisattvas, for the sake of each and every action of each and every sentient being, even if they have to wander endlessly in samsara, they will continue to wander, and they will continue to seek the medicine of wisdom, and they will not abandon their armor, but will very firmly put on all kinds of armor from great armor to non-discriminating armor. Thus it is said. Getting used to this kind of thinking and generating faith can also become a cause for awakening the power of the Mahayana lineage. In the Prajñāpāramitāsaṃgraha it says: When wandering in samsara, abandon your own suffering and generate immeasurable and steadfast armor.
