One should meditate in a certain way. That is to say, if one examines and analyzes the harmful object, then the harmer himself is also struck by the demon of afflictions, so he is not autonomous. As Chandrakirti said, "Here, sentient beings are not the fault, these afflictions are the fault. If the wise analyze, they will not be angry with sentient beings." In particular, if one analyzes the nature of harm, one cannot achieve patience, so one must tame one's own mind. The harmful object is like a spreading plant in the forest, which cannot be satisfied by taming, but will continue to grow. "If one tames one who makes resentment and anger, the asceticism of patience will make me happy." That is to say, if one has enough power to stop anger in one's own mind, one does not need to rely on the untamed mind of others, because the perfection of patience is perfected only by the absence of anger in one's own mind. As it is said in the "Entering the Way of the Bodhisattva", "Sentient beings are untamed like the sky, it is impossible to completely destroy them. If one destroys one angry mind, it is like destroying all enemies." For example, although it is impossible to cover the entire ground with leather, covering it with the leather of the sole of a shoe is like covering everything. Therefore, if one achieves patience, one does not need to suffer physically and mentally from bad food such as roots, leaves, sprouts, flowers, wind food, etc., and rough things, because patience is the best asceticism. As it is said in the "Letter to a Friend", "Therefore, there is no asceticism equal to patience, do not give anger any chance. The Buddha himself promised that abandoning anger will attain non-retrogression." Like this. All harmful conditions arise based on the near-taking of one's own conceptualization. "Does the arrow of extremely rough words pierce the heart of a person? By accepting its near-taking cause, the interdependent and the dependent conflict and torment each other." Like this, even if one experiences the feeling of hatred like a heart breaking due to rough words, etc., that is a weapon of words without substance, so no one has pierced or harmed the heart. Because it is not a tangible thing, but the near-taking of mind and mental factors.

Due to these causes and conditions, the victim and the perpetrator come together like the dependent and the support, and having recognized the nature of anger and suffering, not contemplating the nature of harm is the greatest antidote and its power is stable. However, for those that become antidotes through contemplation, one should practice the sharp weapons of scripture and reasoning as explained in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life" and the "Entering Wisdom". Here, as stated in the "King of Glorious Victory Banner Sutra": "Sons or daughters of good family should rely on and meditate on the Dharma of patience. If, while walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, a chamber pot, a poison bottle, ashes, or excrement and urine are brought and poured on their heads, or if their whole body is afflicted with suffering, they should not generate thoughts of hatred and resentment, nor should they say, 'What fault is there in me?' Apply this similarly to all situations. What touches what? Does it harm the body or does it harm the mind? The body is like grass, wood, tiles, and reflections, without discrimination, without awareness, neither self nor other. If it harms the mind, the mind is without color, without form, arising and ceasing in an instant, without abiding for even a moment, neither self nor other." Like that. Similarly: 'Here, the causes and effects of harm are limitless, arising from oneself, like sound and echo. If the self does not arise, there is no place for harm, look to the causes and conditions of your own past deeds.' If the so-called 'self' does not exist from the beginning, then the causes and conditions for clinging to others or external objects, and the anger and disputes that arise from that, will not occur. Just as without a cacophonous sound, there will be no echo. Therefore, anger or disputes, etc., are mutually dependent. In particular, if one has not previously created the cause of harm in a previous life or in the present, others cannot inflict the result of harm. Therefore, one should know that in general, it is by relying on the existence of self that the harm of others is produced, and in particular, it is by relying on one's own past karma that one becomes an object of harm.
