If the actions of body, speech, and mind are utilized with afflictions associated with ignorance and thoughts corresponding to it, then it is the cause of bondage. For example, even if the essence of a substance is gold, when it becomes a shackle, it is like being bound. If it is grasped by only wisdom and compassion, although it may seem like not an action, it has actually entered the state of being bound and becomes the cause of happy migrations and liberation. For example, just as gold itself, when used as the hand symbol of a deity, becomes the source of merit. If it is utilized with a thought that possesses skillful means and great wisdom, it is said that it will become the cause of liberation into the unsurpassed great enlightenment itself. For example, just as gold itself, when made into the form of a Tathagata, becomes a sacred field of offering. Therefore, whatever afflictions should be negated, one should be skilled in the skillful means of the Great Vehicle, and subdue them with non-discriminating wisdom, transcending self-generated motivation, turning away from the self-character of objects, not accumulating the habits of karma and afflictions, and on top of that, perfecting the accumulation of merit and wisdom, possessing all the qualities of the three vows in abundance. As it is said in the Ratnakuta Sutra: "Light Protector, for example, poison that is completely controlled by mantras and medicine cannot cause death. Similarly, the afflictions of Bodhisattvas, when completely controlled by wisdom, cannot cause a fall." The key is not to contradict, in terms of what is to be traversed. In general, when attachment is spontaneously purified, it is impossible to have all the conditions for a defeat in individual liberation. For example, even if one experiences the touch of sensory interaction in a dream, the root of the vows is not destroyed. Similarly, in the case of the Bodhisattva vows, it is undertaken for the sake of taming certain beings, or propelled by the thought of benefiting others, or entering the secret mandala during the time of mantra, or for the sake of accomplishing the two types of attainments, etc. Because of being propelled by these thoughts, the mind that grasps things as they appear has fallen under the experience of illusion, so it does not possess the conditions for an incorrect affliction, and through skillful means, generating

Because it is present wisdom, it also does not possess the individual characteristics of the currently arising limbs. Although this is the case, some with small wisdom view skillful means as substantial and do not know how to measure the realm of wisdom. If they think that because the primary focus is on substance and not on pure conduct, failure will occur once the first layer of skin has passed, then it is so for those who are not skilled in skillful means and are separated from the view of wisdom. For example, a tongue without mantra is like being burned by red-hot iron. Correctly speaking, just as one uses tongs to handle poison, that which is grasped by skillful means and wisdom is the very nature of not contradicting the essential points. The teacher Āryadeva said: 'Desiring to completely abandon afflictions, one should seek by means of the supreme meaning.' The main practice of the occasion is that, in general, from the initial practitioner to the lord of yoga, one should practice in relation to time, based on one's own experience. In the midst of the assembly, one should conduct oneself with conscientiousness in the five faultless practices of Samantabhadra. Moreover, a pure place is a monastery and a remote area. Pure livelihood is righteous wealth unmixed with wrong livelihood. Pure vows are that, for the initial practitioner, the Pratimoksha is primary, and gradually, in accordance with the growth of great compassion, skill in means, the utterly unborn in ultimate truth, and the power of wisdom without substance, one accomplishes the needs of the higher and higher levels as primary. The three, Bodhisattvas and Vidyadharas, are not tainted by faults. A pure friend is one who possesses conduct equal to the Lama. Pure Dharma is that which is reckoned with emptiness and compassion. As it is said in the Guhyasamaja Tantra: 'Outwardly maintain the conduct of a Shravaka, inwardly delight in the meaning of the Guhyasamaja.' In accordance with this, the fully enlightened Buddha Padmasambhava also holds this view. During secret practice, those non-mingling transgressions should be completely and fully guarded without mixing. When learning measure or asceticism, the mantra should be primarily guarded. It is not that one should especially abandon the lower aspects, but when one has mastered the skillful means and wisdom of the higher, the vows of the Shravakas are corporeal, transcending discriminating consciousness, therefore transgressions are also corporeal. Even so, in order not to cause the world to lose faith, those aspects that are common to the two sets of vows should be guarded as they are.
