It is. What hinders it is said in the sutras to be an unwholesome spiritual friend. For example, lack of faith, lack of shame, lack of embarrassment, laziness, perverted wisdom, not striving to guard the doors of the senses, not respecting and not cherishing elder monks, not paying attention properly, speaking harsh words, lack of patience, being manifestly delighted in work, speech, and gatherings, associating with householders, repeatedly looking at women, anger, and holding grudges, etc., these afflictions are also obstacles to discipline. Therefore, with completely pure discipline, one should truly take up the qualities of practice, which are the main branches of perfect concentration. There are twelve aspects to it: dwelling in a solitary place, dwelling in a heap of rags, begging for alms, eating one meal, constantly squatting, not taking leftover food, having three Dharma robes, being a pinda-patika, dwelling wherever, dwelling in a cemetery, dwelling under a tree, and being without interruption. Among these, dwelling in a solitary place is a place that is in accordance with one's vows. In 'Showing the Good Path,' it says: Even if one falls asleep in a solitary place, dwelling in solitude pleases the Sugata. Even if one is very focused in a city, one will not be able to protect concentration happily there. So it is. Dwelling in a heap of rags is easy to obtain because worldly people will reproach it, being content and having few desires, turning away from desire, and one will not fall away from the Dharma due to actions such as associating with householders for the sake of clothing. Begging for alms, because one has the state of asceticism of wandering for alms, one abandons the faults of wrong livelihood and pride, and possesses the qualities of enduring contempt. Eating one meal is not eating again and again. If one has already eaten, even if one has not risen from the seat, one does not take the washing water of the bowl and eat it again, or one obtains food separately, and after eating a mouthful of food, one does not eat again, that is the limit of food. So it is said. Constantly squatting is not sitting leaning on bedding, but sitting in the lotus position and

It means keeping the body upright. As mentioned before: Because the vow precedes abandoning laziness and sitting, it is called the squatter. As it says therein, not accepting food afterwards: Abandoning eating afterwards. Because a vow has been taken, there is no greed and contentment, and it is in accordance with the way of joy. As it is said. The three Dharma robes refer to the manner of holding the kasaya, upper garment, and skirt, so it is called the three Dharma robes. The felt-wearer refers to wearing felt made of unspun wool, which is known in the world as being content and having few desires. Dwelling in suchness refers to not being satisfied with any mattress found, not being attached to good mattresses, and dwelling in suchness. The one who dwells in the charnel ground refers to dwelling in any charnel ground without fear in order to feel sorrow and prevent indulgence. The one who dwells under a tree refers to abandoning sheltered places and dwelling under a tree, having an awareness of impermanence from the changes of the four seasons. The unshielded one refers to dwelling in a non-house place, not shielding the light and images of the sun, moon, and stars. Having thus taken the merits of practice, one should not praise oneself, slander others, or follow the path of non-saints. Now, in order to explain the incidentally implied permissions, besides the seventeen defeats here, things that are not allowed to be enjoyed can be blessed: If it is necessary to eat food at an untimely hour, or to like it in a place with unpleasant sounds, or likewise, when bathing, a sick person needs extra clothes, or it is not allowed to wear white clothes, or because of lack of leather, etc., one feels impoverished, it is allowed for the sake of protecting life, or one thinks that touching jewels is allowed for offering to the Three Jewels and for nourishing sentient beings. For things that are not allowed and not forbidden, it is considered to be in accordance. Therefore, if it is really impossible to accomplish the minor precepts other than the four defeats and the thirteen sanghavasesas, one should generate bodhicitta to bless them. For untimely food, or when it is necessary to eat repeatedly, in general, nature, dharma, discipline, and abandonment are called
