There are seven permissible types of cloth: cotton cloth, Shani cloth; coarse cloth and Zarma cloth; Kotamba cloth and Dugula cloth. There are seven types of materials for robes. These seven are not comparable to Sluchen and Kachar Pentsal. Also, there are eight unsuitable major dyes: madder, legan, resin and grass; medicinal resin and indigo, cinnabar; sindhura and saffron, these are considered the eight major dyes. And, there are three permissible dyes: blue dye, madder dye, these are the three permissible dyes. Furthermore, clothes that have not been cut with dye should not be considered clean. Therefore, those that are suitable for cutting and sewing should be cut and sewn, and if not available, they should be patched. However, for complete cloths, they should be marked with dye according to the size of small pieces of cloth, as well as length and height. These necessities of life should also each have their own characteristics, and be blessed with their own names. If there are no three actual robes, then bless the materials; for those who are not attached to actual materials, then bless according to circumstances. The necessity is: in reality, avoiding the faults of holding and abandoning, and not mixing with other things; through indirect means, generating the benefit of detachment from attachment to objects. If there are extra items, such as a second folded robe.

Only leather shoes are allowed, and if there is no cushion in a house that is not a temple, sitting on leather is permitted, but lying down is not allowed. In remote areas, both mattresses and bedding are allowed to protect against the cold. However, fancy leather items with gold and silver decorations, noisy shoes, and leather from elephants, tigers, leopards, horses, donkeys, etc., are prohibited because they are considered ornaments. However, just as leather clothing is allowed in the Asmapatantara region, hats and high boots are also allowed in places where water freezes. The basis for medicine is: when the teacher was residing in Shravasti, the monks were suffering from autumn diseases for a long time, and they were allowed to take medicine. Among them, the use of seven-day-old medicine is allowed at the appropriate time and dosage. There is a detailed classification of items needed to sustain life. In terms of meaning, the main medicines allowed are those that can eliminate aggregated diseases, and these medicines can be enjoyed after being blessed, and there is no other use for them. Therefore, a room for storing medicine is allowed, called a "clean room." Raw cooking and aging can be done there, so it is called a "clean room." The sutra says, "Items cooked and stored after being blessed are no different from external items." There are four ways to bless a clean room: first, laying bricks; second, the entire process from starting construction to completion; third, praying and blessing after completion; and fourth, blessing when separating. Among these, the latter two also apply to converting old houses into clean rooms. The basis for residence is: in Varanasi, the householder Deshe requested the teacher to build a temple, and the teacher allowed it. It is said like this: "A temple should be built. A toilet should be built in the center of one side. In front of the toilet is the gatehouse. A square is best." And so on. After construction, draw Vajrapani on the door and a five-spoke wheel in the gatehouse, etc. Do not abandon the temple. You must strive to provide service and maintain residence. Give guidance on conduct as you wish. And so on, for comfortable living, various conveniences are provided to the donor.

The sutras that extensively explain the manner of conduct are definitely included here. For those who have renounced with the mind of Nirvana and are endowed with morality, it is appropriate to have hundreds of thousands of clothes, hundreds of foods, and five hundred-storied buildings. The property of the Sangha is also appropriate, for those below the level of non-learners, and also for ordinary individuals. But it is not for those who have broken their vows. As it is said, those who have reached the ultimate goal of learning are fields of merit, and do not abide in the path of allowance and prohibition. Noble learners, because they are able to cultivate the corresponding qualities, are allowed to enjoy the offerings given by others. Even if they are ordinary individuals, if they are pure in their vows and diligent in reading and reciting, the Teacher has allowed it, so there is no fault. If one is only pure in vows, but their mindstream is destroyed by laziness and they do not engage in hearing, thinking, and meditating, then it is like the debt of a poor person, which must be repaid later. Those who have broken their vows are always forbidden to use property, and if they do, they will experience the suffering of the lower realms. In the Sutra of the Buddha's Treasury, it says: Shariputra, a monk who has broken his vows must cut and chop his own flesh for hundreds of thousands of trillions of kalpas to repay the benefactor. Even if he is born as an animal, he will have to carry heavy burdens. If one cannot digest even a fraction of a hair divided into a million parts, what need is there to mention clothes, food, bedding, and medicine? It also says: Shariputra, in a land filled with pus and blood, I cannot act according to my rituals, let alone dwell together with a monk who has broken his vows. Why is that? Because whatever is taken by the hand of a monk who has broken his vows becomes poison to a monk who upholds his vows. Thus, the gods of Sagha also said: The non-learner is the master, the learner can enjoy the offerings, and those who possess meditation and reading, because the Teacher has allowed it, there is no fault. The rest, destroyed by laziness, enjoy themselves as if in debt. For those who have broken their vows, at any time, the use of monasteries and other necessities is forbidden. Thus it is said. The basis of action that pervades everything, and so on, can be understood elsewhere. In short, the cause of the discipline of restraining behavior is solely the restraint of the senses.
