After gathering and counting the bundles of grass, please inform the Sangha. Thus, the monks who have resided here during the rainy season have performed the Pravāraṇā. After being informed in this way, those present reply: "The Pravāraṇā has been performed well!" "The Pravāraṇā has been performed very well!" Then, for the Pravāraṇā of objects, the appointed person takes any object such as a needle in hand and sits before the elders, asking: "Venerable ones, is it permissible to perform Pravāraṇā for the Sangha residing for the rainy season with such an object?" Those present reply: "It is perfectly permissible!" "It is very permissible!" Thus, they make the distinction. Then, the appointed person gathers all the gains of the rainy season and places them to one side. The Pravāraṇā of the novices should be done as before, and after informing them, their gains should be collected and distributed together with the previous ones. Non-timely Pravāraṇā is: if due to Dharma-related activities or circumstances of resolving disputes, it is necessary to leave during the rainy season, or if having vowed to reside for the rainy season, two or more Uposathas are missed, then Pravāraṇā can be performed on any of the eighth or twenty-third days after half of the period has passed. If it is not possible to stay due to war or other reasons, then after informing each other through the Sangha's Pravāraṇā, those who are allowed to leave, these are special cases of time. Special cases of individuals are: if there are no more than four monks, there is no need to appoint a Pravāraṇā performer, and the request and the actual Pravāraṇā are performed directly. If there are only three or two, then the Pravāraṇā is blessed. If there is only oneself, then only the main text is recited three times. Furthermore, if having obtained permission to be blessed for seven days or so, one has gone outside the boundary, and encounters others performing Pravāraṇā in another monastery, then it is acceptable and without fault to perform Pravāraṇā together with them. If one arrives suddenly on that day, or another ordained person who has left the rainy season residence also needs to perform Pravāraṇā. Thus, on the sixteenth day after performing Pravāraṇā, in order to avoid excessive attachment to the place, one should abandon distracting talk and improper attention, and with Dharma-related talk, or with the silence of the noble ones, with proper attention, at least

Even for the duration of a finger snap, wandering monks are allowed to travel. If there are dangers everywhere, or if there are faults such as quarrels, then even if they do not go, it is said there is no transgression. Harming others is not a virtuous act, so if crops and fruit trees are damaged because of wandering monks, or if there is a fault of causing householders to be disgusted, wandering monks should not be overly criticized, because the purpose of wandering monks is to abandon attachment to dwelling places. Therefore, when wandering monks and others suddenly want to travel, or if they are going to travel tomorrow, they should ask the lama from now on and obtain permission, and should not travel if it is not in accordance with the rules. In the dwelling where they stay, they should recite the three sections of the Tantra Sequence in the morning and evening. In addition, for the sake of comfortable living, clothing, leather, and dwellings should be understood in detail elsewhere. Here, combining with the ground, only the essence is mentioned. When the Buddha Shakyamuni was residing in Shravasti, the monks who had finished their summer retreat and came to pay homage were tired because of the large number of people, so he allowed a hard mat related to leniency. This is actually the grass mat that is laid as the foundation when sewing monastic robes. A monk with a hard mat obtains ten benefits: holding, fruit, and placing; repeatedly; gathering; going without permission; avoiding the five faults of begging for clothes; no matter where the monk belonging to the mat lives, the gains are shared; it is permissible to wear clothes that have not been allowed; and it is permissible to wear clothes without patching. The manner, time, person, object, and ritual of the mat are not mentioned. Regarding the foundation of clothing: the Buddha allowed the Shravakas to cut the cloth obtained during the summer into bad colors and wear it. The Venerable Rupadhari, seeing that those who made a living by practicing were mistaken for Shravakas, requested that marks be sewn on, so the Buddha allowed the cut and sewn clothes. This is related to the thirteen necessities of life: meditation mat, upper robe, lower skirt, monastic skirt, dust cloth, actual dust cloth, cloth for the dust cloth, face cloth, pus cloth, patch, razor, cushion, and large summer cloth. The material of these should not be too bad or too good.
