Then, the Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, knowledge diminishes, life ends, the formations of life are abandoned, and the Teacher's doctrine will surely perish. Why do you not practice with diligence and steadfast asceticism? Human life is extremely difficult to obtain. Having obtained it, and having also obtained the Victorious One's doctrine, which is attained by it, having gone forth, you are deceived by things that are incompatible with the meaning of liberation. Monks, abandoning life and dying is easy, but the breaking and destruction of morality is not so. Why is that? Because abandoning life and dying will only end the life of this existence, but the breaking and destruction of morality will, for hundreds of thousands of lifetimes, cause you to be separated from your lineage, abandon happiness, and experience great downfalls. Therefore, the Teacher greatly praised morality, saying: One who has morality will meet the Buddhas; one who has morality is the best of all ornaments; one who has morality is fragrance and perfume; one who has morality is the place of all joy; morality is the cool water that removes suffering; one who has morality is praised by all the world; through morality, one attains the supreme state. Just as even a fierce poisonous snake, a great black dragon, is harmless to one who has morality, what need is there to mention others? A monk who has morality has light; one who has morality becomes famous and obtains happiness. Just as it is impossible to see forms without eyes, so too, without morality, one cannot see the Dharma. Just as one cannot enter a path without feet, so too, without morality, one cannot be liberated. Just as a good vase is a container for jewels, so too, morality is the basis for generating all qualities. Just as a broken vase is not suitable as a container for jewels, so too, the destruction of morality destroys all qualities. Is it possible for one who initially has no morality to later think of attaining nirvana? For those who have no nose, or a snub nose, etc., is there a need for mirrors? Even if the ears have not heard and the eyes have not seen, that person who protects the doctrine will go to the heavens. One who is learned, possesses learning, and protects learning will surely be born in the heavens. How can one associate with women? How can one delight in the royal palace? How can there be essence in a bubble? There is nothing tolerable in women. The king's

There is no joy in ruling, bubbles have no essence, enjoyment is not eternal, enjoyment is like flowing water. What kind of boat, what kind of home; what kind of flower, what kind of appearance; life is like a water bubble. The Blessed One spoke thus. The monks, including the close retinue, rejoiced and praised the words of the Blessed One. May we dedicate with any dedication, etc., to all the Buddhas who have passed in the three times. Then, after doing the general confession and asking about the Vinaya rules, the Uposatha of a novice is: After prostrating three times to a virtuous monk, say, "Please pay attention to the Uposatha." After saying this, sit down in front of each monk, less than three at a time. Venerable ones, please listen. Today is the fourteenth or fifteenth Uposatha of the Sangha. I am a novice named so-and-so, and today is my fourteenth or fifteenth Uposatha. I, a novice named so-and-so, have completely purified all obstructing dharmas. I request the venerable ones, etc., to accept my complete purification. After reciting this three times, say, "Well done!" After obtaining complete purification in this way, separate the novices from the place where they cannot be heard. The reciter of the sutra says, "In order to bless the common transgressions with a single request, please the Sangha follow the conduct and pay attention to the matter of the request." After adjusting the intention in this way, monks of the Sangha, please listen. Today is the fourteenth or fifteenth Uposatha of the Sangha. If all of us, the Sangha, have become involved in transgressions, then among us there is a monk who can properly deal with our transgressions again. Please monks properly deal with these transgressions, this is the request. Then there is the consensus of the place: Apart from the blessing of common transgressions, everything else must be determined. Please pay attention to the consensus of the place for the request and the two karmas. Monks of the Sangha, please listen. If all the places have been completed or done, or the inner boundary and the outer vicinity within a bow-shot, if the Sangha considers this to be the place of the Sangha's Uposatha, if the Sangha at this time
