There are two ways to remedy through joyful confession. The first is: rebuke, curse, expulsion, and condemnation, these are four. Restoration, prohibition, and abiding, these are six. Expelling the unseen from the dwelling, not allowing remedy, having sinful views, being quarrelsome, facilitating the cause of quarrels, dwelling in intimacy with nuns, and not pacifying disputes settled by the Dharma, these seven expulsions combined into one, mixed with the previous six, are called the "Forceful Seven," meaning to place in a lower position and demean. That is to say, there should be no prohibitions for the Sangha's actions, the actor should be qualified, it should not be during the summer, there should be recollection of what was said, offerings should be distributed, and one should turn away from evil deeds and their causes, thereby allowing the downfall to be remedied. Thus, if one confesses sins relying on force, then the qualified Sangha should accept the naturally abiding forgiveness according to the ritual, and afterwards, joy should be generated. To remedy through joyful confession is: wanting to hide the occurrence of a downfall is a mind of concealment; the actions of body and speech arising from a definite motivation are the downfall of concealment, which is also included among the four causes of being born in hell. As stated in the Loving Lion's Roar Sutra: These four are like arrows shot towards the arrogant: being jealous of others' gains, proclaiming faults of discipline after hearing the Vinaya and Earth Sutras, concealing faults with arrogance even after transgressing the teachings and precepts, and knowingly enjoying what is given by faith. Thus, a monk who knows the difference between downfalls and non-downfalls and has mindfulness, if he hides overnight from the abandoned objects of the Sangha, and associates with any of the four root downfalls, then the downfall in this life cannot be remedied, because it has become an incurable continuum. Such a person should be expelled from the Sangha, but if he is a holder of the scriptures, then although he does not have the right to enjoy with the Sangha, he should be cared for with dwelling, enjoyment, offerings, etc., and if he does not accept such a request for forgiveness, then from then on, the benefits of the Dharma of the dwelling...

It is said that when the precepts are complete, defeat will occur in the Sangha. Here, what is appropriate to restore is the absence of concealing any offense. From the Mind-Only School upwards, after stating the matter to the Sangha and confessing, again give the Bhikshu vows of the four karmas, and after that, give the training of the defilement karma. Even so, he should be taught to accept five inferior behaviors for as long as he lives, and to abandon five special behaviors. When he attains Arhatship, he will naturally abide there, because all causes of delusion have been exhausted and abandoned. As it says in the Light Sutra: "Bhikkhus, give training to the joyful one who has not given rise to a concealing mind. When the outflows are exhausted, one should enter the ranks as before." Therefore, training is the karma of defilement, but not the training of precepts. If he eats, even if a person without concealment offers the training and takes it again, it is permissible for the full ordination vows to arise, and it is the same for a novice. If a specific root downfall occurs and giving training becomes an obstacle, then there is no need to practice the training. Because from the point of view of the basis, it does not arise, just as there is no harvest or hail without a field, one will not obtain either merit or downfall. Similarly, the thirteen remaining offenses and coarse offenses, and other offenses, should be gradually restored according to their severity. Also, one should know from the ritual the ways of being able to restore and not being able to bless, etc. In short, for what has been done in the past, there should be regret like drinking poison, eliminating the karma like vomiting, constantly using antidotes like relying on medicine, and like not drinking poison later, there is no karma that cannot be eliminated through the four powers of complete restoration. Regarding the training to be accomplished, in the Vinaya-vastu, it is said that there are seventeen bases that are the foundation of the three trainings, among which, in this ritual, three bases are mainly discussed: Posadha, Vassa, and Pravarana, which are the means to purify the essence of morality. First, regarding the basis of Posadha, it was permitted due to the request of many lay followers in the Bamboo Grove of Rajagriha. And, past obscurations are eliminated, and the remaining mind and wisdom are purified.
