I.e., generating discriminative awareness that contradicts what has been properly taken, also abandoning it by demonstrating the cause of offering that it is difficult to practice celibacy. As the scripture says: "Without abandoning the precepts, without destroying the precepts." Thus it is said. Similarly, abandoning the support, i.e., the sense faculties of the material consciousness cease, and one abandons it by dying and transmigrating; the support deteriorates, i.e., two genders appear simultaneously, or it changes three times, and one abandons it; the support is absent, i.e., one abandons it by generating a wrong view that sees cause and effect as non-existent. The latter is extremely serious because it is said to be the cause of abandonment for all vehicles, great and small, because it cuts off the roots of virtue and has no basis for vows. On top of the four, adding the cause of abandonment of the passing of the night of the sustaining observance is the treasure tradition, as it says: "Abandoning the precepts and dying, the appearance of two genders and cutting off the root, and the passing of the night." Thus it is. If divided by distinctions, if one who is not yet twenty years old thinks that he has reached it and takes full ordination, if he knows it at that time, it is permissible to make up for it with the months of pregnancy. If it is not complete even if it is made up, then his vows will be broken, as the sutra says: "If he knows, then it is broken." If he is born as a male, then he is not yet full, residing in the womb, and including the months of pregnancy. Thus it is. Also, the vows of a novice monk are abandoned by promising to engage in desired things, as it is said: "Because of desired things, promising to others, then the precepts are confused." Thus it is. If considered according to each school, the Red Garment school abandons it because the Dharma of the Vinaya has disappeared, because the boundaries of the precepts have not been established as such. Thus they believe. The Sutra school abandons it by committing a root downfall and concealing it, because the self-nature is damaged by great shamelessness and lack of embarrassment. Thus they believe. The Kashmiri Vaibhashikas do not abandon the vows even if they commit a root downfall and conceal it, because it is not reasonable to abandon the complete vows because only one part is damaged. Such a person is both a holder of vows and a transgressor, just as someone has both wealth and debt. Thus they believe. The reason for this is also as follows. The Kashmiris consider what has arisen as both debt and wealth. Thus, because the basis, intention, action, ultimate result, object, and aggregation of all downfalls are different. Initially, even at the time of generating vows, from one vow substance to seven.

The intermediate stage actually produces the same number of four elements as the cause of acquisition. Favorable conditions, such as Khenpos and Acharyas, act as agents, and the manner of causes arising together with the same fate produces the actual result of form as a knowable object. These seven are like a dragon with seven snake heads, arising and remaining, and it is accepted that even if one is cut off, the other six remain in place. In the commentary on the Pratimoksha Sutra, it also says: "If one side is taken, not all can be taken, Likewise, if one side is abandoned, not all can be abandoned." So it is said. Among them, according to the first view, the sutra says, "There are many monks, and there are one hundred and one nearby." Like this, the ritual of one hundred and one actions disappears, and there is no form of defilement, so even if there is no new generation, there is no cause to abandon the previously existing precepts, because the realization of the Dharma in its continuum has not disappeared. As the brothers Asanga said, "Merely the disappearance of the scriptures does not abandon the previously existing precepts, because the realization of the Dharma does not disappear. However, at that time, there is no new birth that did not exist before, because there is no form of ritual that causes defilement." So it is said. The latter meaning is degraded in the Extensive Commentary, because for a monk who has become defeated, even if he already has precepts, it actually becomes unnecessary, because he does not live and enjoy with those who practice Brahmacharya, and taking the precepts correctly is for liberation, but he has made liberation distant, so his precepts are like non-existence. Following this view, one enters the meaning of the middle. However, for the initial practitioner, the mind does not naturally abide, and is tormented by feelings and unable to calm the mind, and is controlled by others and unable to practice, so the four realities of the five aggregates do not arise as they are. If both degeneration and non-attachment are combined with transgression, then an evil deed is committed. Because it is said so. Therefore, here it is related to the meaning of the middle, even if it is abandoned in a concealed way, it can be restored.
