Therefore, even if a Bodhisattva takes the Pratimoksha vows as a branch of merit, his continuum is not that of a Pratimoksha follower who delights in peace, because the Four Noble Truths are also cast elsewhere, and the difference between time and the mind of renunciation is also closely examined. The Pratimoksha of a Bodhisattva is that which follows until enlightenment, and this vow is born from desire. I do not say that it falls into transgression. In accordance with this, the way to establish the absence of the nature of desire is extensively explained in that very sutra, and it does not show the mind of renunciation like the Pratimoksha. Generally, the etymology of the term Pratimoksha is that because of Pratimoksha, it is called Pratimoksha, which is the name of the result attributed to the cause. As stated in "Showing the Excellent Path": This path is called Pratimoksha because it leads to Pratimoksha, just as the path to a city is called the city path. Or, because one is individually liberated from sins, it is called individual liberation or discipline, because one learns it, it is pure and liberated, or it is a vow not to abandon special devotion to perfect merit. Or, because it protects and liberates, it is called protection and liberation, because it protects from misconduct, all defilements, and the lower realms. And also, because it is an ordinary being, it is prone to falling, and is bound by karma and defilements, wandering in the non-intelligent lower realms, protecting and liberating from that suffering, so it is protecting from falling, which is the vow of liberation from that suffering, which is the result attributed to the cause, just like "entering the river of happiness is happiness." Therefore, without striving for the benefit of others, but fearing that one's own karma and defilements will cause one to wander in samsara and roam in the lower realms, protecting against falling and liberating from it is consistent with the meaning of the words, and there is no other necessity. A Bodhisattva aims solely at the benefit of others, so the term Pratimoksha does not apply to him, but the continuum of a Bodhisattva who holds vows is...

It should be understood that it is merely establishing the name of a Bodhisattva's Pratimoksha. As it is said in the "Ten Wheels of Ksitigarbha Sutra": "The discipline of a Bodhisattva has two kinds of purity: common and uncommon. The common is the vow of a lay devotee, or the Pratimoksha vow of a renunciate, having taken full ordination. The uncommon is to protect the discipline with a mind of equality towards all sentient beings, a mind of harmlessness, and a mind without resentment. It is protected without regard to the maturation of all existences." As it is said, it is clear. Furthermore, there are Bodhisattvas who remain in the household without the signs and rituals of the Pratimoksha, yet abide in the training of a renunciate, as it is said in the "Fierce Interrogation Sutra": "A Bodhisattva householder should be skilled in the faults of being in a household. A household is called that which destroys the roots of virtue, refutes arising, and overthrows the tree of goodness; therefore, it is called a household. To dwell in a household is the place of all afflictions, the place where unwholesome roots manifestly arise, the place where the ignorance of childish ordinary people is hidden, the place of unwholesome conduct, the place where evil beings gather; therefore, it is called dwelling in a household." It also says: "This household is the gathering place of paths of speech for killing, binding, beating, threatening, harming, unpleasantness, scolding, speaking badly, and doing evil." And so on, with endless faults. Similarly, a Bodhisattva householder should generate three perceptions towards his own wife: What are the three? To perceive her as a flesh-eating woman, to perceive her as a Rakshasa woman, and to perceive her as an ugly form. It also says: "Mixing from beginning to end, to perceive her as difficult to satisfy, to perceive her as a deep abyss, and to perceive her as ungrateful. To perceive her as a large sow, to perceive her as a crocodile, and to perceive her as a large cat." And so on, with sixty-five faults of women. Likewise, dwelling in a household is the staircase to the lower realms; renunciation is
