Those who speak of the earth, the sick, and parents also, the Dharma, and others, even if not noble, parents and, the sick and Dharma speakers, Bodhisattvas of the last birth, the merit is immeasurable, as it is said. Thus, even if the object of giving is small, if there is no expectation of maturation and fruition, it becomes a true field of merit, and even if the object is large, if it is mixed with the intention of the five desires, the fruit is uncertain. As it is said in the Sutra of the Ten Wheels of Ksitigarbha's Essence: For the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings, not for the sake of expecting maturation and fruition, even if the object of giving is small, it becomes a true field of merit. Even if the object of giving is large, if it abides in the five desires, and is not sealed by the noble ones, it abides in an uncertain gathering. Thus it is said. Great giving is, as it is said in the Sutra: What is called great giving is the giving of sons and daughters and family. As it is said, like a king who gives everything, competing with rivals, a jealous king, with what he takes, without any certain benefit to himself, greed and, becoming a deceitful and evil mind, all the sons and, daughters and, attendants of the giver are demanded, and therefore, a great attachment arises in their minds, and they feel the feeling of suffering, as if the heart is about to break, even so, not turning away from the mind of giving, giving with a mind without regret, like that, for such courage and benefit, thinking again and again, feeling great shame for one's own stinginess and miserliness, one should get used to making vows, as it is said in the Compendium of Perfections: Remember the supreme conduct of the Buddhas, and think of your own vows accordingly, in order to completely eliminate attachment, generate these thoughts in your mind. Thus it is said. The most difficult place to practice, the most extreme giving is the giving of head and limbs, as it is said in the Sutra: What is called the most extreme giving is the difficult to practice, the giving of head and, eyes and, hands and, feet, etc. Thus it is said. When our teacher became a glorious retinue of conduct, a beggar with a broken waist demanded everything below the axe, accumulating many carpenters' dwellings, with a sharp saw.

Having allowed his own waist to be cut off and proceed, when the king became Moonlight, he cut off his head and offered it to the eyes of the wicked Brahmin, and when the earth became the sky, he took upon himself giving, great giving, and the three kinds of extreme giving. In the later times of giving, the waves of his own body's blood surged, and the suffering of the sensation of being touched by weapons was extremely difficult to endure, yet he repeatedly contemplated the way in which he connected with inexhaustible aspirations for as long as ten hundred years. As it is said in the Sutra of the Confluence of Vatsa Water River: Wives and sons, kingship, great power, and flesh, blood, fat, body, and eyes, I have given them all for the sake of others' joy. Whoever benefits sentient beings is the supreme offering to me. Whoever harms sentient beings harms me. Therefore, like this, my body is like a heap of impure and foul-smelling things, and life is extremely unstable like a violent storm. Both of these follow after karma, and are therefore controlled by others. Even though they are guarded by many doors in every way, there are still fire, water, cliffs, kings, wild animals, and robbers, etc., who inflict extreme harm, so they are not under one's own control. Even if it were not so, as it is said in the Sutra Requested by Clear King: Great King, even when you ride on the saddle of an elephant, or on the back of a horse, or on a chariot, blowing conches, beating drums, earthenware drums, hand drums, playing various kinds of musical instruments, holding umbrellas, banners, flags, and victory banners, waving jeweled-handled fans, fly whisks, and things made on chariots, elephants, cavalry, and small troops follow behind. Princes, Brahmins, invited officials, leaders, and hundreds and thousands of people with palms joined pay homage to you, and proceed gloriously! Proceed gloriously! They praise you so beautifully. Experiencing going out, it will not last long, and without moving, dying in bed, being carried by four people, father and mother, brothers and sisters, wife, sons and daughters, fame of reliance, male and female servants, and workers, etc.
