Furthermore, the decline due to manifest pride is as follows: like eating the yellow garden of sprouts and the flowers of Kati Suka. If harvested inward, it grows inward; if harvested outward, it grows outward. But even so, it still declines as before, therefore feeling sorrow. After that, harvesting uncultivated rice, which grows naturally without being seen, and enjoying it, the body becomes strong. The sexual organs of male and female, and the paths of excrement and urine, appear in reality. To cover them, they make lower skirts and clothes from cotton or wool. The desire for coitus arises, thus being born from the womb. The act of mutual lust is seen by others, and because stones are thrown, a sense of shame arises, so they build houses, thus being named the house of shame. To protect from the nectar-like rain falling from the sky, they cover the top with thatch, so the earliest house is known as the thatched hut. Lazy people take rice from the rice fields and store it. Everyone becomes accustomed to doing so, and due to the fault of hoarding, the rice becomes chaffy. After that, one person with a bad nature says, "This rice field is my power," thus dividing boundaries, and everyone falls into a chain reaction of jealousy and arrogance. Due to differences in thought, the amount of merit causes the harvest of the fields to be good or bad, so the bad ones cannot survive, thus stealing and begging from the good ones. Due to the power of karma, this also nears exhaustion. One person with a good nature distributes equally to everyone, causing their own share to decrease. Everyone is satisfied, so they elect him as king, thus a king who is respected by many appears. Among the common people, some turn their minds away from home and focus on cleanliness, thus being named Brahmins. Those who stay at home and mainly respect their parents are called Kshatriya caste. Those who do not regard their father as father, their mother as mother, do not regard elders as elders, and act rudely by killing, stealing, and committing adultery, etc., are judged as outcastes or Chandalas. Even if they are defiled by caste mixing, or if their sudden behavior becomes like that, it is explained as being demoted to the outcaste caste, so in India until today, great importance is attached to protecting the caste. Even so, the followers of the heretical Brahma claim that four castes arose from the face of Brahma. After that, plowing the mountains with wooden plows and planting a little mustard, thus mustard is the earliest grain.

Oh, it happened. Then, they greatly developed agriculture, and villages, regions, royal palaces, and vast cities flourished. When the human lifespan reached eighty thousand years, almost the entire Jambudvipa was filled with cities, as far as a bird could fly, becoming wealthy, prosperous, peaceful, and with good harvests, filled with people and multitudes. However, now in this degenerate age of five hundred, even within a certain distance, villages and cities are scarce. All the traces of what existed in the past are on the verge of disappearing. No longer wealthy, declining from prosperity, with poor harvests, and few people and multitudes, with many evil destinies and intermediate states. They strive with effort to find the cause of these, but the mind towards liberation and the path of omniscience is as rare as a star in the daytime. This is also shown as a sorrowful and impermanent tale of an intermediate time. Thus, the formation of the higher realms has been explained. Next, how the lower realms are formed: they arise from accumulating the karma of the three poisons on the basis of the higher realms. In particular, from the karma of hatred, accumulating the karma of becoming the lord of hell, one is born as the King of Yama. Under him, the guardians of hell, with various faces such as dogs, birds, copper, boiling water, flames, and various kinds of weapons, appear through the manifestation of their respective karmas. These appearances are for sentient beings to experience suffering, including the Avici Hell, the Extremely Hot Hell, the Hot Hell, the Great Crying Hell, the Crying Hell, the Crushing Hell, the Black Line Hell, and the Reviving Hell. Near the north of the eight hot hells, there are hells that crack like a great lotus, hells that crack like a lotus, hells that crack like an *utpala* (Sanskrit: উৎপল, utpala, meaning: blue lotus), hells where teeth chatter, hells that make the sound "kyi hud", hells that make the sound "a chu", hells where blisters burst, and hells full of blisters, which are the eight cold hells, along with sixteen surrounding hells, all formed by the power of karma. As explained in the *Bodhicaryavatara*, Mahayana Buddhists believe that these are formed from habitual sinful thoughts, but if one misunderstands the meaning and thinks that they do not actually exist, then, if one says that oneself does not actually exist, how can the manifestation of karma be evident? Therefore, it is untenable to think that they do not exist. Those karmas accumulated through desire lead to rebirth as hungry ghosts with external and internal obscurations.
