Regarding the manner of perfecting oneself into a Buddha, it is also said in the Uttaratantra, "Generosity, ethics, patience, etc., possessing all kinds of excellence, are called the body of emptiness." Thus, having correctly identified the path to be learned, the speed of progress on the path depends on the three differences in the intellectual strength of the individuals who accomplish it. The three types of Bodhisattvas who accomplish through the power of intelligence are: those who first act for their own benefit and wish to liberate beings, like a king with great desire; those who wish to liberate themselves and beings simultaneously, like a boatman with supreme wisdom; and those who wish to liberate beings first and then attain peace themselves, like a shepherd with incomparable aspiration. Dull individuals need thirty-three countless eons, intermediate individuals need seven, and sharp individuals need three to be liberated. Among them, dull Bodhisattvas first exert effort in the means and wisdom to become Buddhas themselves, and then liberate beings. This is called the aspiration of a king with great desire. Like a Chakravartin king who first obtains his kingdom and then considers how to establish the realm in happiness, like the aspiration of the noble Maitreya. Wishing to be liberated together with sentient beings, like a boatman crossing a river with travelers, this is called the aspiration of supreme wisdom, which is for intermediate individuals. The aspiration that is not of great desire, like that of a shepherd, is called incomparable aspiration. Like a shepherd who, when encountering dangers on the road or from wild animals, does not feel at ease until the cattle, sheep, etc., have not breathed their last. Similarly, having generated Bodhicitta, learning what is to be learned, and even though the ability is perfected, Bodhisattvas remain in the state of the tenth Bhumi until Samsara is emptied, and they do not become Buddhas, like the noble Manjushri and Avalokiteshvara. The former needs thirty-three countless eons, the middle needs seven, and the sharp needs three countless eons to attain unsurpassed enlightenment, as stated in the Ratnakuta Sutra. Among them, those who generate the aspiration of great desire need thirty-three countless eons to be liberated from Samsara. Those who generate the aspiration of supreme wisdom need seven countless eons.

It is finished. With an unparalleled mind of enlightenment, one attains complete and perfect enlightenment through three countless eons. Why is that? Because the power of the mind is small, medium, and large. These can be likened to a wheel-turning king, the helmsman of a boat, and a manager. Therefore, the greater the power of wisdom, the faster the liberation, so one should don the armor of diligence. In this regard, a beginner should abandon the timidity of thinking, "I am accustomed to clinging to self-view, and together with afflictions, I do not wish to be born in that way." Why? Because the view of the perishable aggregate is said to be the lineage of the Tathagata, and the way in which the mind of enlightenment arises depends on the self-view. As it is said in the "Sutra Requested by Kashyapa": For example, a lotus arises from muddy water with mud, but never from dry land. Likewise, in beings with afflictions and wrong views, the victorious Dharma of the princes of enlightenment arises. And in the "Ratnavali": As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there is clinging to self. From self-clinging, karma arises, and from karma, rebirth arises. Therefore, self-clinging and afflictions, when grasped by skillful means, are the cause of the arising of qualities, which is a characteristic of the Great Vehicle. In general, the necessity of speaking about the difference in the power of the mind here is that in the path of the Vinaya and Mantras, one is not allowed to listen to the precepts unless one has first taken vows; while in the path of the Bodhisattva, as stated in the scriptures, one takes the precepts properly when one has a good understanding of the precepts beforehand, has faith, and is able to practice them. Therefore, in order to engage in the practice here, for the sake of having a great practice with the difference of mental strength increasing from above to above, it is said in the "Compendium of Sutras": Bodhisattvas who possess the practice of the six perfections and so on, walk by the miraculous power of the Tathagatas. It is praised that there is nothing faster than walking by the miraculous power of the Tathagatas. Apart from the six perfections and the ten bhumis, there is no other path for Bodhisattvas to enter very quickly. Therefore, the continuum of the mind will gradually subside like a fire being extinguished.
