This is a praise of those who abide in the true meaning. A Bodhisattva is not known by lineage and descent, not known by class and followers, not known by body and support, not known by signs and rituals. If the fault of relying on a person cannot arise from anywhere, then for those who manifest the signs of an awakened lineage and are worthy of examination, one should generate respect and service. Because others may also exist in the birthplaces of butchers, prostitutes, and animals, as stated in the "Questions of Kashyapa," one should not offend all sentient beings, but focus on purifying pure appearances. It should be held that Bodhisattvas and like-minded Dharma friends are the sole cause of the exhaustion of merit and roots of virtue, and that disparaging and denigrating them is beyond words. Third, one should not be separated from the superior intention of benefiting all sentient beings, and one should strive to do so oneself. Superior intention is to act honestly without deception or pretense. Fourth, for all sentient beings that one can ripen, one should generate great intelligence, encourage them to generate the initial mind, and from the depths of one's heart, lead them to abide in the mind of perfect Bodhi. As it is said in the "Questions of Kashyapa": "Kashyapa, if one possesses four qualities, one will not forget the mind of Bodhi. What are the four? Knowingly not telling lies, generating the perception of a teacher towards Bodhisattvas, abiding in superior intention without deception towards sentient beings, and firmly establishing all sentient beings in the Great Vehicle." And so on. Therefore, these four white dharmas are the essence of merit and become the antidote to the four black dharmas that are not merit. Not only in this life, but until one attains Bodhi, the reason for not forgetting the mind of Bodhi in the bardo is, as stated in the same text: "Kashyapa, if a Bodhisattva possesses four qualities, then in all lifetimes, as soon as they are born, the mind of Bodhi will manifest, and until they sit on the Bodhi tree seat, they will not forget in the bardo." This is what is actually shown. The root verses for entering are four, as stated in the "Twenty Verses": "Attachment to gain and respect, Praising oneself and disparaging others, To those who are suffering and without protection, Being stingy and not giving the Dharma, And others."

Not listening to confessions, scolding others with anger, abandoning the Mahayana, and proclaiming what appears to be similar to the true Dharma. This means being overly attached to gain and respect, accepting self-praise and the disparagement of others; seeing suffering and helpless beings, being stingy and not giving wealth, nor giving the Dharma of beneficial intent; even if others confess their faults, still not ceasing anger, but scolding them; not being respectful of the Mahayana, but pretending that what is not Dharma is Dharma and proclaiming it. Like the teacher Bhavyamukha and others, they consider these four to be the actual root downfalls, and the other eighteen to be imputed, and it should be known that this is the difference between classification and aggregation. Thus, if all four branches are complete, it is a great entanglement, that is, continuously engaging in misconduct, and not generating even a little shame or embarrassment about it, but being pleased and delighted by it, and not thinking of it as a fault, but regarding it as a virtue. Having all four branches complete is a great entanglement, because it destroys the vows, it is called defeat. If any one of the branches is complete, there is shame in relation to oneself, and a little embarrassment arises in relation to others, so it can be turned back by others, this is a medium entanglement. Even if there is only one of any of the branches, great shame arises, and without regard to other factors, one immediately stops it oneself, this is a small entanglement, the former two do not abandon the vows, this is in terms of medium and dull faculties, it is the view of the Bodhisattva Bhumi. Even so, in determining the conclusion, on top of the two that are abandoned, a contradictory non-vow is generated, the abandoning condition is the offering of the precepts, and the four dharmas that are complete with medium entanglement or higher are definitely said to be the four causes of abandonment. The difference between the Sutra of Skillful Means and the Compendium of Trainings is distinguished by the sharpness or dullness of the faculties. The method of confession is in the Twenty Chapters on Discipline: The vows should be taken again. Medium transgressions are confessed to three. The remaining ones are before one. Like the mind of self, afflicted and unafflicted. This means abandoning the aspiration mind, and abandoning the vows with the root downfall of defeat by great entanglement, if this happens, one should diligently confess and accumulate merit, and take the vows again.
