and also truly transfer, taking on the suffering of others as one's own responsibility to bear, practicing this extraordinary courage of giving and taking, may we never be separated until enlightenment. Not exceeding the nature of aspiration and action is holding the mind. Abandoning aspects that contradict this, and immediately correcting even if a downfall occurs, is purification. Having acted in this way, from all aspects and at all times, learning to exchange one's own happiness with the suffering of sentient beings is the supreme method of mind training. The *Bodhicharyavatara* says: "If one does not exchange one's own happiness for the suffering of others, one will not attain Buddhahood, and even in samsara there will be no happiness. One will abandon both this world and the next, and one will not even be able to act as a servant, nor will one receive the rewards of a master, and the meaning of this life will not be accomplished." Therefore, at the beginning of one's practice, just as one likes to be perfect, other sentient beings also like to be perfect. Just as one does not want to suffer, other sentient beings are the same. Therefore, seeing that protecting oneself and abandoning others is not good, one should view self and others as equal. Familiarize yourself with this, and taking all sentient beings as your responsibility, focus on all moments when the breath of your own happiness is exhaled outwards, and give that happiness to others. When inhaling, take on the suffering of others along with the breath, practice this giving and taking, as previously said: "A troop without laziness, taking on responsibilities and being independent, equality of self and others, and exchange of self and others." Thus, when focusing on the great conduct of a Bodhisattva, if one thinks that one like me cannot compete and feels afraid and lazy, then one should generate courage like a sparrow building a nest on a rock. One should take on responsibilities like a peacock cherishing its feathers. One should be independent like an eagle soaring in the sky. Having acted in this way, in the past I also regarded all sentient beings as my parents, but I did not strive for their benefit, and I used others for my own benefit, etc., so that even now I have fallen into the servitude of kings, etc., that

Therefore, now one should train in not separating from the mind of enlightenment, which is connected with the courage to gladly cut off oneself for the sake of other beings. As it says in the same text: For oneself, harming others, one will suffer in hell and so on. For others, harming oneself, one will obtain all perfections. The one who desires to be high himself will be reborn in a bad rebirth, become bad and foolish. If that is transferred to others, one will receive service in happiness. If one employs others for one's own sake, one will experience being a slave and so on. If one uses oneself for the sake of others, one will experience being a lord and so on. All the happiness in the world comes from wanting happiness for others. All the suffering in the world comes from wanting happiness for oneself. What need is there to say much? Children act for their own benefit, and the Buddhas act for the benefit of others. Look at the difference between these two. One should use intelligence well. Thus, combining also abides in the nature of the four immeasurables. The beginning of the four also arises from repaying kindness, and from that, the way they gradually become like cause and effect. The four immeasurable aspirations are also: From repaying kindness, love arises. From love, compassion arises, and from that, the mind of enlightenment arises. It is truly accomplished by the words of the measure. In this regard, the Bengali Pandit considers knowing the mother, remembering kindness, repaying kindness, pleasing love, pure higher intention, great compassion, and the ultimate result of unsurpassed enlightenment to be the sevenfold cause and effect instruction. Therefore, one should recognize all sentient beings as mothers and remember their kindness in the following way: Like a newborn baby, the mother's lap is like a bathroom, touching all impurities with her hands. The mother serves tirelessly, touching and covering with her body. The young child would rather die himself than have his mother die. If one kills such kindness and service, what could be more chaotic than that? It is said. Then, by what reason do we know that all sentient beings have been my parents? In the Sutra of the Great Nirvana, it says: If this great earth were made into balls the size of peas, one being has been my father
