is a Bodhisattva who travels like a cart of livestock. Among them, what is a Bodhisattva who travels like an elephant cart? For example, someone wants to transcend that world, rides on an elephant cart with eight branches and embarks on the road. He reaches two thousand yojanas in a hundred years, but is blown back from that road by a huge wind wheel, until there is no chance. Similarly, someone who generates Bodhicitta, also upholds the Mahayana, reads and recites, properly contemplates, and also relies on the Hearer Vehicle practitioners, and even reads and understands the Hearer Vehicle, this is a Bodhisattva who travels like an elephant cart. What is a Bodhisattva who travels like the sun and moon? For example, someone wants to transcend so many worlds, if he embarks on the road traveling like the sun and moon, can he transcend all those worlds? Answer: World Honored One, it takes a long time to transcend. The World Honored One said: Similarly, if someone generates Bodhicitta, does not rely on the Hearer Vehicle, and does not even understand the Hearer Vehicle, and does not even read a single verse of the Hearer Vehicle, but understands the Mahayana itself, this is a Bodhisattva who travels like the moon and the sun. What is a Bodhisattva who travels like the miraculous power of a Hearer? For example, someone wants to transcend so many worlds, can the miraculous power of a Hearer transcend those worlds? Answer: World Honored One, it is not possible to transcend quickly. The World Honored One said: Similarly, if someone generates Bodhicitta, believes in the Mahayana, reads the Mahayana, and is respectful to the Bodhisattvas who uphold the Mahayana, with this respect, he devotes himself to it, strives for it, relies on them, completely seeks the Mahayana, completely upholds and remembers it, and does not abandon the Mahayana even for the sake of life.

I offer with great reverence using flowers and cushions, and do not despise those Bodhisattvas who are not yet skilled; this is a Bodhisattva who travels by the miraculous power of a Shravaka. Then, who is a Bodhisattva who travels by the miraculous power of a Tathagata? For example, if someone wants to transcend that many world realms, and he travels through the world realms by the miraculous power of the Tathagata, can the miraculous power of the Tathagata transcend those world realms? Answer: Bhagavan, it can transcend; it can transcend in a moment of thought. The Bhagavan taught: Similarly, if someone generates the mind of enlightenment, has faith in the extremely profound and vast, is skilled in the meaning of the Great Vehicle, and constantly strives for the sake of protecting all sentient beings with the mind of enlightenment, loving-kindness, compassion, the six perfections, the four reliances, and the objects of gathering, and is also good at establishing others, this is a Bodhisattva who travels by the miraculous power of the Tathagata. Traveling by livestock and elephant carts is the unstable ordinary person. Traveling by the moon and sun is the stable ordinary person. Traveling by the miraculous power of a Shravaka is from the first to the seventh bhumi. Traveling by the miraculous power of a Tathagata is said to be included in the Vipaka-bhumi (resultant ground), and practicing the six perfections. To establish its rationality: Just as a seed falls on the ground, generating the supreme mind of enlightenment, even unimportant births become important. Having taught this, merely generating the mind of enlightenment is like planting the seed of supreme enlightenment in the continuum of ordinary beings. However, in order to prevent it from degenerating and to increase it, the path of the Lesser Vehicle is a great obstacle. Therefore, the path of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is only a remedy for specific afflictions, just as different medicines each eliminate specific diseases. The mind of enlightenment is like the nectar of the gods, which, like uprooting all diseases from their source, is the antidote to all afflictions and is the unerring cause for attaining Buddhahood.
