The noble teacher said: "The gods become displeased, and they can also be protected, poison and weapons cannot harm, inner peace and great bliss, effortlessly attaining meaning, even if not completely liberated, they will be reborn in the Brahma world, obtaining the eight qualities of loving-kindness." Thus it is said. In order to explain the object of compassion, the nature of compassion is the suffering of others, the unbearable strong mental power, and seeing the suffering of all six realms of beings, the cause and effect, being pushed to the limit and shedding tears. It is divided into three types. Compassion focused on suffering sentient beings is to eliminate the suffering of sentient beings tormented by three or eight types of suffering with great compassion; compassion focused on evil-doing sentient beings is to eliminate all the roots of non-virtue of those sentient beings who create the cause of three or eight types of suffering, and engage in non-virtuous deeds with compassion; compassion focused on sentient beings who are not liberated due to lack of conditions is to benefit those sentient beings who have not met virtuous friends, have not heard the Dharma, and do not understand what to accept and reject, thereby liberating them with compassion. Among these three, the first is the entry point for beginners, the aspect of the object is to desire sentient beings to be free from suffering, and to take on their burden. If one does not take on the burden, but only thinks that it would be good if sentient beings were free from suffering, and it would be really happy to encounter happiness, such loving-kindness and compassion even Hearers and Solitary Realizers have, therefore here one must generate the superior intention distinguished by courage, because this is the characteristic of the Great Vehicle. In the "Inquiry of Sagaramati Sutra" it says: Sagaramati, for example, a merchant or householder has only one son, who is lovely, dear, pitiable, pleasing, and there is nothing disliked when seen, and that child, because of playing, falls into a pit of impurity. Then, the child's mother and relatives see that the child has fallen into the pit of impurity, and after seeing it, they also cry out loudly, sadly wailing, but they do not enter that pit of impurity to rescue the child. Then, the child's father towards that direction.

Then he saw his only son fall into an unclean pit. Seeing this, he rushed in with great speed, desiring to rescue his only son, and without hesitation, he jumped into the unclean pit and pulled out his only son. Here, the unclean pit refers to the three realms. The only son refers to all sentient beings, and the mothers and relatives wail at the edge of the pit, but cannot enter it, which is like the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, who have a little compassion, but cannot relieve the suffering of sentient beings. The courage of the Bodhisattva is like that father, who, with the strength of altruism, does not protect himself and can enter into it. Therefore, since we have entered the Mahayana path, we should view it this way: all sentient beings are like blind people wandering in a desolate and terrifying wilderness, their eyes of discernment blind, without the guidance of a virtuous friend, without the food of generosity, having lost the escort of morality, the dam of patience collapsed, the steps of diligence faltering, separated from the resting place of meditation, abandoned by the wheel of wisdom. Some sentient beings are boiled and burned in the great hells, some are hungry and distressed in the city of pretas, some are tormented and suffer in the animal realm, some are fighting and arguing in the realm of asuras, some are falling from the heavenly realms, and some are experiencing the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death in the human realm. Like this, all six types of beings have not been liberated from suffering, following after karma, tormented by strong afflictions, facing the fear of the lower realms directly or indirectly. Some now seem happy and prosperous, but are engaging in the causes of suffering, delighting in unwholesome actions; some are experiencing the results of suffering, tormented and distressed by the lower realms and so on. Therefore, one should truly contemplate the current behavior and future consequences of all sentient beings, who are as boundless as space, and this will surely manifest the cause for the arising of compassion. And the love and compas-
