Now, if we explain the distinctions of the qualities of remembering the Buddha from the perspective of meaning, outwardly, it is like this: The one who is renowned in the world as "Bhagavan" (Sanskrit: Bhagavān, Devanagari: भगवान्, Roman transliteration: bhagavan, literal Chinese meaning: Bhagavan) is so because he has conquered desires and other afflictions, or because he resides at the Bodhi tree and has conquered the hosts of Mara who strive to obstruct him, hence "conqueror"; because he possesses special kalpas and powers, hence "possessor"; although possessing these, he has transcended all faults of existence, such as craving and grasping; because he has realized and comprehended the nature of things as they truly are, hence "Tathagata"; because what he has spoken is true and does not change, he is also "Tathagata." "Arhat" is because he has conquered the enemy hosts of afflictions; how has he conquered? He is the ultimate of the four fruits of a renunciate, which will be explained below. "Perfectly Complete Buddha" refers to the perfect and complete enlightenment because he has abandoned all afflictions that connect with the habits of hundreds of thousands of noble ones. Thus, "Tathagata" is "Perfectly Complete Buddha" because he has completely awakened to all dharmas in a correct and unerring way. As it is said in the "Seventy Verses on Refuge": "Awakened from the sleep of ignorance, wisdom also increases, the Buddha expands like the petals of a lotus." "Vidya-charana-sampanna" (Possessed of knowledge and conduct) is because he possesses wisdom and conduct such as discipline and samadhi. Because he has gone to the state of no sorrow, beauty, and non-retrogression, he is "Sugata" (Well-gone). "Knower of the World" means that he fully knows the arrangement of the sentient world in the form of the twelve links of dependent origination, and similarly, he knows without error all the formation, destruction, duration, emptiness, measure, and nature of the container world. In another sense, "Knower of the World" is known as fully understanding the good terms of the world. It should be understood that understanding the nature and deceit of ordinary beings is contrary to "Knower of the World." "Tamer of Beings" refers to beings who can be tamed, and because he tames and guides them, he is "Tamer of Beings." He is more excellent than Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas.

Therefore, it should be known that the supreme noble path is attained. Gods and humans are excellent beings who travel to higher realms and are also vessels for the noble path. Therefore, they are taught without error, and thus are teachers of gods and humans. Because they have realized suchness, they are called Buddhas, the Bhagavad-bhagavats, and because the nature of reality, which is without inherent existence, is used as the highest word, the final phrase is not revealed. If the distinctions of qualities are explained according to the way of abiding in essence, then the Buddhas, the Bhagavad-bhagavats, are those who have abandoned all faults, that is, they have abandoned the afflictions of what is to be abandoned by seeing and what is to be abandoned by meditation, and all obscurations of knowledge. In another way, they are endowed with the qualities of the three abandonments: well abandoned, abandoned never to return, and abandoned without remainder. As the Lord of Knowledge said: "The Sugatas have three qualities of abandonment of cause." And so on, as explained in detail. From the point of view of the perfection of qualities, there are the five eyes, the six superknowledges, the ten powers, the doors of dharani, the ten strengths, the four fearlessnesses, the four specific knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha, and so on. Among these, the eye that is included in the five eyes by the Buddha-ground is the eye of all-knowingness. The corresponding one exists from the eighth ground onwards. The Dharma eye directly realizes all noble individuals with sharp or dull faculties. The wisdom eye directly sees the meaning of all phenomena being empty of their own nature. The divine eye knows the death and rebirth of beings as they are. The flesh eye directly sees all subtle and coarse forms from a hundred yojanas up to three thousand worlds. Among the six superknowledges, the superknowledge of miraculous powers is the shaking of the earth, transforming one into many, and many into one, and so on. The superknowledge of the divine ear is the realization of all sounds, great and small, of all realms of the world, as they are. The superknowledge of knowing the minds of others is the direct determination of whether the afflictions of others' minds are separated or not. The superknowledge of remembering previous abodes is the recollection of hundreds of thousands of previous lives of oneself and others.
