And, the wisdom of knowing the recollection of previous lives, likewise knowing the wisdom of death, transference, and birth, the power of knowing the exhaustion of defilements, these are the ten powers. Having briefly explained thus, the distinction of its nature is: From what cause will what effect necessarily arise? Those who know this are called by the wise as knowing the place. Contrary to what is said, for the non-place, the knowable is boundless, knowing without obstruction, this is called power. The meaning explained by these and so on is: From what cause of virtuous, non-virtuous, and mixed actions, the result of mixed happiness and suffering arises, thus and thus, truthfully and without deception, this is the place. Whatever is contrary to this, the power of knowing without attachment or obstruction what is the non-place. Similarly, for what is desired, undesired, and other than both, and for exhausted things, that is, karma without defilements, and its maturation, encompassing the things of the three times, the power of knowing all. For various defilements such as desire, and other than that, intermediate inclinations, and especially superior inclinations, etc., seeing as they are the inclinations of ordinary beings and noble assemblies of the three times, is the power of knowing various inclinations. And the five physical faculties such as the eye, and their consciousness, that is, the five non-physical faculties, these five desires related to each other as object and subject. The sixteen emptinesses of nature, etc., are the distinctions of the divisions of the realms. Knowing all that exists to be known in the three times, that is, the power of knowing various realms. And the twenty-one faculties such as the eye, along with their results, and the order of faculties divided by the distinctions of sharp, medium, and dull, seeing all without exception, is the power of knowing superior and non-superior faculties. And the six realms and the paths of hearers, solitary realizers, and Buddhas, etc., all the aspects of correct and inverted paths, is the power of knowing all paths. And in the boundless realms of the three times, the four meditations, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, etc., all defiled and purified

Because of knowing afflictions and purification without confusion, hence the power to know afflictions and purification; for oneself and others' past lives, whatever the state, one can recall and directly see without confusion, hence the power to know the recollection of past lives; just as one knows past lives, for oneself and others' death and rebirth, and all stages of taking birth, one knows without confusion, hence the power to know death and rebirth; for the three types of abandonment of Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and unsurpassed Bodhi, and all stages of the exhaustion of outflows, one knows without confusion, hence the power to know the exhaustion of outflows, totaling ten. The four fearlessnesses: claiming to have manifestly realized complete perfect enlightenment, one knows the nature of all dharmas without confusion, therefore there is no opponent in accordance with the Dharma, hence fearlessness in perfect realization; for all that is encompassed by afflictions and cognitive obscurations, the abandonments that become obstacles to liberation and omniscience, saying "this has not been abandoned," therefore there is no opponent in accordance with the Dharma, hence fearlessness in teaching the Dharma that can cut off obstacles; for the ground knowledge and path knowledge, etc., teaching as the definitive path of liberation and omniscience, saying "even if this path is taught, it cannot definitively lead to liberation," therefore there is no opponent in accordance with the Dharma, hence fearlessness in teaching the definitive path of liberation; claiming that all outflows have been exhausted, saying "this outflow has not been exhausted," therefore there is no opponent in accordance with the Dharma, hence fearlessness in perfect abandonment. The four analytical knowledges: for the realms and names of all defiled and purified dharmas, one can easily know, hence the analytical knowledge of Dharma; for their own and common characteristics, one can know without confusion or ignorance, wisdom can be applied without obstruction, hence the analytical knowledge of meaning; for all kinds of speech that are in accordance with the objects to be tamed, one can understand, hence the analytical knowledge of words; for one's own essence and distinctions, one can know without obstruction, wisdom can be applied without obstruction, hence the analytical knowledge of eloquence. The eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha: Maitreya, the protector, said: There is no confusion or clamor.
