were gathered together. At that time, the king made great offerings to the relics of the Thus-Gone One with incense, flowers, perfumes, and unguents, and recited verses of praise. He also erected umbrellas for the community of monks and made offerings. At that time, the venerable Lord said to the king: Great King, the first is your body, and the second is the body of a naga. Place these two beautiful bodies together in a large golden vessel, and they will be equal, and you will be able to see the difference in merit with your own eyes. The king did as he was told, and after a while, he looked and saw that the naga's body remained, but the king's body was seen bowing to the naga. Then the venerable Lord said: Great King, now you must strive to accumulate the causes of merit, and you will see the difference day by day. After saying this, the king continued to make great offerings to the relics of the Thus-Gone One and to the community of monks, and he respectfully listened to the Dharma. As a result, the king's body stood up, and the naga's body bowed to him. Finally, all the limbs of the naga's body bowed to the king's body, and the king was overjoyed and said: Alas! What is the result of offering to the Three Jewels? Behold here. The naga who dwells in the ocean, I have tamed and can control him. Even those of little wisdom, who would not worship the Buddha? For that which immediately produces results, who would not think about it with their mind? Those gods and humans who desire to attain great sovereignty should truly worship the perfect Buddha, birth will be exhausted and there will be no rebirth. Thus he spoke. At that time, the venerable Lord, knowing that the time had come because the king's merit had become strong, urged him, saying: Great King, now is the time to send the copper letter to the naga. The king, as before, sent a messenger to cast the letter into the sea, and the naga king received the letter with the crown of his head and promised to send the previous jewels. At that time, when the king was preparing to send the merchants, the venerable Lord

As instructed, on a copper plate was written: "For the punishment of violating the sacred command of the ruler of Jambudvipa, each of you must bear the burden of your own guilt on your shoulders and bring it here." And it was sent. As soon as the Dragon King saw the letter, he was terrified and promised, "If the deity is like that, I will offer seven umbrellas to shield him." Then, in the center of the city where all the people were gathered, the king sat on a lion throne, and the Dragon King and his retinue transformed into human form, placing the jewels on their shoulders as a burden, and prostrated at the king's feet. In this regard, praising the virtues of the Bhagavan, it is said: Merit is not destroyed by fire, nor is it destroyed by wind. Merit is not soaked by water, nor is it carried away like earth. Neither kings nor thieves can steal merit. Neither men nor women can take away merit. Merit is a treasure that generates happiness, it will not remain here, but wherever one is born, it will follow there. Thus it is said. Therefore, merely showing respect for merit is not only focused on temporary happiness, but also to generate great courage with faith in the Dharma. Faith in the Dharma is like strong armor, the profound and vast Dharma realm is like the lord of the ocean. Whether one fears demons or not, one must entrust everything to steadfast courage. Without deviating from the path, walk on the six perfections. Our teacher also, in order to generate the mind of enlightenment on the great path of Bodhi, accumulated merit for countless eons, practiced diligently, reached the other shore of supreme wisdom, and finally attained enlightenment, becoming the protector of all beings. Therefore, in order to achieve the same state, whether we encounter happiness or suffering, whether good or bad circumstances arise, even if death comes, even if we encounter savages and wild beasts, we must, like a merchant who does not fear bad lands, or a captain who enters the ocean, not fear any circumstances, and put on the armor of courage. Whether it is the profound Dharma like the ocean, or the vast Dharma like the sky, for both of these, one must avoid discouragement and hypocritical behavior.
