If the understanding of these (teachings) is not just a rough generalization, then accomplishments will be swift. Why? Because when initially performing the empowerment, the nature of the mandala is the Vajra Master, and the mandala complete with the three places (body, speech, and mind) is also a manifestation of his samadhi. Especially, the ultimate of the Completion Stage is to be accustomed to the wisdom of non-conceptualizing the nature of reality. Because that is the very nature of the mind of a realized lama, the qualities of realization arise in the mind-stream from the blending of the lama and one's mind. Therefore, there is the preliminary practice of common sadhana, and after the practice of Guru Yoga, there is also the teaching to train in blending one's mind with the lama's mind. As it is said in the Jataka tales: "The holy ones are not controlled by anyone; one should rely on virtue in a gentle manner. Being near to them, the dust of their qualities, even if not intentionally applied, will be acquired." Like this, without understanding, most foolish people draw images and meditate, but do not serve the guru who actually resides (before them). They say they are meditating on the true nature, but they do not understand the guru's mind. Practice and what is to be practiced contradict each other, how foolish! It is strange to expect to meet the deities in the bardo without devotion! In Tibet, not to mention seeing the guru as a Buddha, they don't even see him as a good Geshe. Some, without any reason, due to worldly fame and the accidental nature of ignorance, draw images, make idols, and pretend to meditate in body and speech, and make external supports of copper, gold, silver, etc. Most of them are only trying to maintain fame with bad motivation, actually pursuing only fame and profit. Why? Because the way and direction of relating to the guru who actually resides (before them) are completely opposite. In the Ratnakuta Sutra, it is said: "All dharmas are conditions; they abide at the peak of intention." Therefore, without devotion and pure perception, but generating distractions and attachment to material things, making images, etc., it is better to visualize the image of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, which naturally appear to all sentient beings without difference, as this is more inclusive. Similarly, empowerment, pith instructions, and the introduction to truth should be received from the guru; otherwise, there is no blessing and

Thinking that accomplishments come from a particular direction is a great mistake. Because the guru and yidam seen in the bardo are the self-manifestation of devotion and clarity, the guru does not actually come to the bardo. For these reasons, it is said: First, be skilled in examining the guru; in the middle, be skilled in relying on the guru; and finally, be skilled in learning the guru's view and conduct. Such a person will walk the correct path. Nowadays, the times are very degenerate. In a time when life, wealth, Dharma, and guidance are all degenerate, it is very important to examine the guru very carefully at the beginning. If, due to the times, a guru with all the qualities cannot be found, then, as it says in the "Request of Good Arms": In times of strife, it is very rare to find one who possesses all such qualities, so (look for) one with half, a quarter, or an eighth of the qualities. This description of a friend can also be applied to a guru. Therefore, from the qualities of the (guru) spoken of in the sutras and tantras, it is unavoidable that even half, a quarter, or at least an eighth can be found. If such a guru is not found, and the guru, in the name of skillful means, leads and teaches disciples of great wisdom to engage in actions that violate the three vows, or leads them astray, then for the time being, skillful means can be used to reverse this situation. In the "Cloud of Jewels Sutra," it says: For virtuous Dharma, act in accordance with it; for non-virtuous Dharma, act in a way that is not in accordance with it. In the "Vinaya Sutra," it says: If one speaks of what is not Dharma, it should be refuted. In the "Jataka of the Brahmin's Birth," it is recorded: In order to examine the character of the disciples, that teacher said that when a Brahmin is impoverished, stealing is righteous. In the world, having no wealth is the greatest poverty. Therefore, without letting anyone see, go and steal the property of others! If you steal openly, your reputation will be damaged, so stealing secretly is the religion of the Brahmins, and there is no fault. Most of the Brahmin disciples knew that this was wrong, but they did not dare to refute the teacher's words. However, the Bodhisattva did not approve of this, and he said: Did you ordain for this reason? I really cannot believe it. Who, after knowing the faults and virtues, would sacrifice virtues for wealth? Even abandoning shame for the sake of divine power, and doing things that contradict the Dharma, is worse than
