Similarly, for the benefit of all sentient beings and for the sake of attaining common happiness, commentary should be written. Therefore, the Bodhisattva who is the lord of the ten bhumis (stages), the protector of the world, acts for the benefit of sentient beings, not for the sake of accomplishing his own benefit. If worldly happiness is given, will not the happiness that transcends the world be given? That which is called 'The True Path of Vajrasattva' is the sixfold union that is endowed with signs such as smoke. By which commentary do the yogis understand that supreme, unchanging nature of the path, that should be written. What is the name of the (extensive) commentary? The (extensive) commentary is called 'The Immaculate Light'. 'Immaculate' refers to the habitual tendencies of desire and so on; by what is that eliminated? And because it makes the mind itself clear light, it is called 'The Immaculate Light'. Therefore, that itself should be quickly written. In the Difficult Explanation, the Lotus Garland, it says: 'Praise and prostration to the deity of desire of the Extensive Commentary, the Immaculate Light, and vowing to write.' Here, the easy-to-understand Difficult Explanation (old tantra) of the inner and outer chapters needs to be written. Now, the basis of the empowerment of wisdom-jnana will be explained. 'Fear' and so on, here the guru calls to the disciple, saying: 'Hey, child, listen. The nature of the sixteen joys, the common happiness of all sentient beings, will be shown to you.' That is also realized through a mudra (seal) endowed with qualities, not from another source. One should abandon the mudra of bad signs. 'Fear' is being narrow-minded and afraid. 'Delusion' is grasping things in a reversed manner. 'Deceit' is being fraudulent and deceptive. 'Being under the power of others' is being attached to another person. 'Diseased' is having consumption. 'Having given birth' means that after giving birth, the reproductive organs are loose, happiness does not arise, and happiness diminishes. 'Anger (possessing)' is being short-tempered. 'Pride' is being arrogant due to lineage and so on. 'Attachment (and clinging) to (wealth) objects' is a prostitute who desires rewards. 'Untruthful' is speaking falsely. 'Fond of arguing (speaking)' is always liking to fight. 'Lacking limbs' means that the hands, feet, eyes, and so on are incomplete. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Incomplete. Impure means not possessing characteristics. A mudra (consort) with such defects should be removed (with great effort) during the wisdom-jnana (empowerment), but not removed in other states. If removed, it is said to be a root downfall. Therefore, this should be called what the noble guru should remove, not to be approached. 'Respect the Buddha (and) the guru, uphold the vows, and offer as previously said.' This means that a mudra with characteristics, under twenty years old, of noble birth, and without a husband, should be offered with various (outer, inner, secret) offerings. This is (the guru's) intention. Then, how are the characteristics of the sixteen joys (described)? It is called 'birth'. (6) Then, what is the empowerment that transcends the world? (The text) says: The empowerment that transcends the world is to rely on the excellent mudra of the supreme empowerment of the Victorious One. The supreme Victorious One refers to the six families, such as the Bhagavan Vairochana. Their master is the Bhagavan Vajrasattva, who is called supreme. His mudra is the nature of emptiness with focus, which is the Mahamudra, surpassing the Karma Mudra and others, therefore it is excellent. Or, because she bestows unsurpassed enlightenment, she is called excellent. To rely on (accumulated) desire means to focus on it day and night with the mind. The state of the mind being inseparably united with it, along with the respective collections, is called the empowerment that transcends the world. Then, what is the Mahamudra like? (The text says:) It is merely the appearance of the mind. Here, because it is the nature of emptiness, the form of the Mahamudra is merely the appearance of one's own mind, not an external object, because it appears to oneself by oneself. Then, where does it come from? (The text says:) It arises from one's own mind. This is because of the grace of emptiness, arising from one's own mind. For example, just as one's own face appears to oneself as a reflection in a mirror (certainly). Such a Mahamudra, in order to accomplish unsurpassed enlightenment, should be relied upon by special yogis (supreme empowerments). Who else relies on it besides yogis? (The text says:) It is relied upon by the sons of all the Victorious Ones. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
