Represented by the famous..., countless upholders of the teachings appeared. Starting from Tibet and Mongolia, and extending to the eastern regions of China, they propagated the Dharma like the rising sun after dawn. Peerless Dagpo Lhaje first partook of the nectar of the Kadampa teachings, and later entered the precious lineage of the Mahamudra, where the two rivers merged, becoming renowned by the name Kagyu. This mainly originated from Marpa Lotsawa Chokyi Lodro. He was born in Lhodrak Khukyer. He learned Sanskrit from Drogmi Lotsawa. He traveled to India three times. He relied on one hundred and eight wise and accomplished masters such as Panchen Naropa, Lord Maitripa, Glorious Yeshe Nyingpo, and the great accomplished Shiwazangpo. He became the master of the ocean of tantras and instructions. After returning to Tibet, he cultivated disciples, transmitting the teachings to Me, Ngok, and Tsur, as well as Gungthangpa Jetsun Rinpoche Mila Shepai Dorje, the common ancestor of the ocean of accomplished lineages in the snowy mountains, thus being known as the Four Great Pillars. Dagpo Lhaje, the sun-like disciple of Mila, namely the Youthful Moonlight, was born in Gyalnyi Nyalnyinglung. He learned the Kadampa teachings from Jayulpa, Karumpa, and Chakri Gangkhapa, and heard the instructions of Mahamudra from Jetsun Mila, and by practicing them diligently, immeasurable samadhi arose. Later, he resided in Dagla Gampo, the place prophesied by his lama. He became like the source of a thousand streams of the Kagyu lineage. He passed away at the age of seventy-five. His main disciples were Je Phagmo Drupa, Gomtsul Tsultrim Nyingpo, Barom Rapa, and the accomplished Drubthop Use. The first, Phagmo Drupa Dorje Gyaltsen, was born in Kham. After going to U-Tsang, he relied on many lamas such as Chapha and Sachen. He attained realization from Dagpo Lhaje. In his later years, he resided in the dark forest of Damshö Phagmo Dru Kuntu Zangpo. He passed away at the age of sixty-one. His disciples were known as the Four Branches or Eight Pillars of the Kagyu lineage. Namely, the emanation of the noble Nagarjuna, Drikungpa Jigten Sumgon Rinchen Pal, a descendant of the Kyura clan of Dokham, and the one with singular devotion to the lama...

From the lineage of Wolwa Yangshö Gzi came the glorious Taklung Thangpa Tashi Pal, namely, Drikung and Taglung. The disciple of Mön Zharwa Yeshe Senge, the victorious Yawazangpa, who was eminent in both systems, and Gopu Shuksepba Gyer Gomchenpo, namely, Yawashuk, both of them. Dharma Lord Smarpa Sherab Yeshe, who was born in Kham Smarshö, and Dod Kham Dakyupa Sangye Pelwa Yeshe Tseg, namely, Smarpel, both of them. Rinchen Gyaltsen, from the lineage of Nubchen Namkhai Nyingpo, and Tropupa, who came from the Kunden Rechung brothers, and Napu Lingrepa Pema Dorje, who was renowned for his high realization even as far as the Ganges River in India, were known as Tro Ling, both of them. From the latter came the Drukpa lineage, whose activities spread in all directions. The disciple of the great accomplished Ling, the incarnation of Naropa, Tsangpa Gyare Yeshe Dorje, was prophesied by Zhang to build Longdol Monastery, by Ling to build Ralung, and by Karmapa to build Druk Monastery. He extracted treasures from the Ronyom Kor and propagated them widely. Among his inconceivable assembly of disciples, Gyalwa Götsangpa Gonpo Dorje was known as the Upper Druk, like a star in the sky, and Je Lorepa Drakpa Wangchuk was known as the Lower Druk, like a pride of the earth. At the seat of Ralung, the lineage holder was Nyammé Senge Gutsar, and after him, Gyare Namtrul Drukpa Gyalwang Je Ngawang Chögyal, the reincarnation of Gyalwang Je, Jamyang Chökyi Drakpa, and Kunkhyen Pema Karpo, and so on, all the omniscient incarnations of the Drukpa came in succession. Secondly, from Gompa Tsultrim Nyingpo, the lineage holders and incarnations, etc., in succession, became the throne holders of the Kagyu. And also, from his disciple Zhang Yu Drakpa Drowai Gonpo, the Tsalpa Kagyu became famous. Thirdly, from Repa Darma Wangchuk, who established his seat at Jang Barom Drakphuk, and his assembly of disciples, came the Barom Kagyu. Fourthly, from Khampa Dusum or Karmapa Dusum Khyenpa came the essence of all Kagyu lineages, namely, the Kamtsang Kagyu.
