With compassion for those weary on the path of existence, bestowing the wondrous, cooling nectar. Supreme teacher, guru of beings, grant auspiciousness. The Victorious One (Buddha), to suit the faculties, abilities, and thoughts of sentient beings, expounded countless Dharma doors. Though unable to recount them all, from the viewpoints of self and other schools, I will slightly unfold some verbal expressions. That is, to allow beings of the three types of faculties, through the three vehicles of inferior, middling, and superior, to find rest in the positions of the three enlightenments, the three pitakas of Vinaya, Sutra, and Abhidharma were taught. Firstly, the followers of the Lesser Vehicle, regarding external phenomena, accept them as truly existent, namely the Vaibhashika and Sautrantika schools. The followers of the Great Vehicle, however, accept them as non-existent, namely the Chittamatra and Madhyamaka schools, making four viewpoints in total. Among them, the first viewpoint divides the knowable into the five aggregates, and summarizes them into two: defiled and undefiled. Through the methods of destruction and analysis, regarding the notion of self-grasping, from the perspective of what can be abandoned and what cannot, it distinguishes the conventional and ultimate truths. The second viewpoint considers that the appearing objects, the general characteristics, are the conventional truth, and the appearing self-characteristics are the ultimate truth. It does not accept the real existence of the three times, the permanence of space, etc. Its essence aligns with conceptual thought. In the common path, through afflictions and non-afflictions, by practicing the Four Noble Truths with sixteen aspects, sequentially, the Arhatship of the Lesser Vehicle and, the Buddhahood are attained, which is the explanation of its result. The third viewpoint considers that all phenomena are the two: the completely imputed and the dependent arising, which are the conventional truth, and the perfectly established nature is the ultimate truth. It accepts the eight consciousnesses of the subject, and distinguishes them as true and false, etc. In short, regarding the nature of the knowable, how to enter it, as well as its causes and effects, detailed classifications, the three trainings, abandonments and the ten perfections, it makes a definitive determination of the objects to be expressed of the ground, path, and result. The fourth viewpoint is divided into the Svatantrika and Prasangika schools, the former believes in the presence of dualistic appearance, and the latter the opposite. It considers that what can be known, what is functional and non-functional, is the conventional truth, and what transcends elaboration and what does not transcend elaboration is the ultimate truth. That is, it analyzes both cause and effect, and places the two types of negation upon the reasoning, through the five great reasonings, all phenomena, are determined to be emptiness. The latter considers that appearance and emptiness in the conventional and ultimate truths, are merely imputed, but in the perception of worldly people, it is merely dependent. If one must accept it, then one falls into the extremes of permanence and annihilation.
