Through the gate of knowing all lands, self, and others as dreamlike illusions, one should proceed without losing the reckoning of the non-conceptual view. As stated in the Compendium Sutra: "Knowing beings as confused, like deer caught in a snare, the wise, like birds in the sky, completely roam." Therefore, it is so. Secondly, generate great compassion for those beings who do not understand in this way, teach the Dharma that cuts off all clinging to exaggeration and denigration, and engage in the vast conduct of Bodhisattvas, such as prostrations and circumambulations, as before. The way to gather the essence of all that and practice it continuously is: Whatever appearances of the environment and beings of the degenerate age may arise, all of this is merely an appearance of non-existence due to the power of delusion. Since nothing at all is established in reality, generate the definite understanding of non-existence, non-existence in the first moment. In the second moment, visualize all environments as pure palaces, and all beings as the indestructible, radiant Bodhicitta, as deities with the three special qualities and complete with the three seats, clearly. In the third moment, to prevent clinging to existence, say "not existent," to prevent clinging to non-existence, say "not non-existent," to prevent clinging to both, say "not both," and to prevent clinging to neither, say "not neither." In any place, do not look, do not think, do not contemplate, do not analyze, but practice with this attitude. Furthermore, whatever appearance arises, do not lose mindfulness of it as before. Thirdly, the yoga of the subsequent attainment is: In order to prevent the roots of virtue and other merits accumulated in this way from being wasted, dedicate them to unsurpassed enlightenment and make vast aspirations. Fourthly, to dispel obstacles that have not yet arisen: Even if you meditate in this way, if the clear and profound view does not arise properly, it is because you have fallen under the power of laziness and sloth, resulting in little diligence, and because you have fallen under the power of distraction and agitation, resulting in not meditating with single-pointed concentration. Therefore, abandon laziness and sloth, and diligently meditate with single-pointed concentration, and it will arise. Even if you do that, if it still does not arise, it is because you have not generated definite understanding of the clear and profound view.

Therefore, for a virtuous spiritual friend who is proficient in the view of profound clarity and clear seeing, rely on them inseparable like body and shadow, and through reading the profound scriptures that expound profound clarity and clear seeing, generate a decisive conviction, and then cultivate again, so that it will arise properly. If it still does not arise even after doing so, it is because the opposing conditions, powerful sins and obscurations, have not been purified, and the supporting conditions, the accumulation of merit, are not complete. Therefore, properly practice the purification of sins with the Hundred Syllable Mantra, cultivate the profound Guru Yoga, and accumulate the profound accumulation of merit of Kusali (Sanskrit: kuśala, skillful) three, and then cultivate again, so that it will arise, these three are like a mother of protection who dispels obstacles. Fifth, the increase of what has arisen is to maintain the yoga like a continuous river without being too hasty, and to practice the skill of equalizing tastes as follows: That is, most of the appearances of samsara are gathered in form, sound, smell, taste, touch, feeling, pleasure, and pain. First, for form, the key is to treat it, that is, first perform the preliminaries as before. At the time of the main practice, contemplate a field of attachment and aversion, something pleasing or displeasing, something fearful and contemptible like a flesh-eating demon. When this object appears clearly in the mind, determine that all of this is merely appearing as non-existent, and then cultivate on top of it as before. If you become proficient in this way of meditation, go to a very terrifying and disgusting charnel ground and practice the skill of looking. Similarly, for the sound that gives rise to attachment and aversion, contemplate in your mind either a very pleasant sound or a very unpleasant sound. When this object appears clearly in the mind, determine that all of this is merely appearing as non-existent, and then cultivate on top of it as before. Then go to a place with bad sounds such as crying and practice. Similarly, for smell, first think in your mind of any kind of smell, whether fragrant or not, and then recognize it as appearing as non-existent, and grasp the key point. Then actually engage with a very unpleasant smell and put it into practice. For taste, first mentally conjure up any kind of taste, whether delicious or not, and then half-eat a very unpleasant taste and practice the skill. Similarly, for touch, first contemplate a touch that is the cause of attachment and aversion, whether it is very soft or rough, and grasp the key point.
