A medium offense should be confessed to three or more people. As stated before: "A medium offense is confessed to three." Any offense for which one feels great shame, and even if others do not dissuade, one quickly turns away from it, is a minor offense. These minor offenses, along with the forty-four transgressions that will be discussed below, should be confessed to one or more people. As stated in the same text: "The remainder before one." Similarly, in the "Twenty Verses of Discipline," it says, "Not making offerings to the Three Jewels," and so on. These forty-four transgressions, depending on the motivation, can become defiled offenses, non-defiled offenses, or even non-offenses. If there is no one to confess to, one can purify them by confessing with one's own mind. As stated before: "Defiled or undefiled, like one's own mind." Furthermore, if one is motivated by love and great compassion, and sees that it will definitely bring great benefit to others, then in most cases it will not become an offense. As stated in the same text: "Possessing compassion and for the sake of love, There is no fault in a virtuous mind." The subjects to be trained in are the three trainings of morality. As stated in the *Bodhisattvabhumi Sutra*: "These three trainings of morality, in brief, are the three activities of a Bodhisattva. One abides by the discipline of vows, perfects one's own Buddha-dharma by gathering virtuous dharmas, and perfects sentient beings by benefiting sentient beings. The activities of a Bodhisattva are limited to these three, namely, abiding in the mind for the sake of being happy in this life, perfecting the Buddha-dharma without tiring body and mind, and perfecting sentient beings. The morality of a Bodhisattva is limited to these." Therefore, all the trainings of a Bodhisattva are contained within these three, so one should strive to train in these three. Furthermore, for oneself and others, one should engage in virtuous actions that may bring suffering in this life but will be beneficial in the future, and encourage others to do so. If something is beneficial and brings happiness in both this life and the next, one should do it. If something brings happiness in this life but will be a source of suffering in the future, one should abandon it and encourage others to abandon it.

It should be done this way. In the "Twenty Verses," it says: It is good for others and for myself as well, even if it is suffering, do whatever is beneficial. Do whatever is beneficial and brings happiness, but do not do what is happy but not beneficial. Thus it is said. Therefore, all that should be abandoned and all that should be cultivated should be well understood from the Bodhisattva grounds and so forth. In all circumstances, one should be mindful and aware, and then practice. As the great master Shantideva said: Those who wish to protect the precepts should diligently guard their minds. And: Those who wish to guard their minds should protect mindfulness and awareness, even if it costs their lives. I instruct you in this way. Thus it is said, therefore, one should practice the precepts well with mindfulness and awareness. Fifth, offering gratitude: Having obtained the perfect Bodhisattva vows in this way, it is due to the kindness of the Lama and the Three Jewels. Therefore, to express gratitude, it is appropriate to serve with prostrations and offerings. First, please make a full prostration touching the five points to the ground and recite these: As many as there are, etc., one recitation of four verses. Then, arrange new and beautiful offerings. After the teacher has blessed them as before, then make the offerings. There are three types of offerings: actual offerings, offerings of the body, and offerings of vast clouds of offerings beyond that. Please offer them in sequence while remembering the visualizations mentioned earlier. After giving this instruction, recite the mantra Oṃ Guru Sarva Tathāgata Argham (藏文:ཨོཾ་གུ་རུ་སརྦ་ཏ་ཐཱ་ག་ཏ་ཨརྒྷཾ།,梵文天城体:ओम् गुरु सर्व तथागत अर्घम्,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ guru sarva tathāgata argham,汉语字面意思:嗡,上师,一切,如来,供品) etc., or recite verses and mantras alternately as appropriate. Actually arrange the offerings. To the Buddhas and their children, etc., offer the body with one verse. Pure flowers, etc., offer the imagined offerings with one verse. Have the disciples make these offerings. Through these, after making prostrations and offerings to the Lama and the Three Jewels in general, especially remembering the kindness of the teacher, generate respect and please make three prostrations. After having the disciples make three prostrations in this way, stand up and, with reverence, have them say: Thank you very much! The third common meaning is, Determining the nature: The cause from which the aspiring and entering Bodhicitta arise, and its own nature.
