Lotus (Tibetan: ཨུཏྤལ་), water lily (Tibetan: པདྨ་), large lotus type (Tibetan: པད་ཆེ་རིགས།). These refer to the eight cold hells. And: Reviving Hell (Tibetan: ཡང་སོས་), Black Line Hell (Tibetan: ཐིག་ནག་), Crushing Hell (Tibetan: བསྡུས་འཇོམས་), Crying Hell (Tibetan: ངུ་འབོད་), Great Crying Hell. Six hot hells, seven very hot hells, and the Avici Hell. These refer to the eight hot hells. In the four directions of these hells, there are: fire pits (Tibetan: མེ་), corpse and excrement mud (Tibetan: རོ་མྱགས་), sword-leaf forest (Tibetan: སྤུ་གྲིའི་ལམ་), etc., and rivers of boiling water (Tibetan: ཆུ་བོ་). These refer to the four. In addition, there are the sword-leaf forest and the iron thorn mountain, these six are the neighboring hells. There are also countless other places of temporary suffering. Hungry ghosts are divided into two types: those who reside in gatherings and those who wander in the sky. The first type is further divided into three types, including those with external obscurations. In the "Meaningful Teachings on Resting the Mind," it says: Hungry ghosts with external obscurations have emaciated bodies, thin limbs, cannot hear the sound of food and drink, are always tormented by hunger and thirst, are harmed by others, are repulsive, and although they see the ocean and forests, they dry up as soon as they see them. Hungry ghosts with internal obscurations have flames burning from their chest and heart, and thick smoke billowing from their mouths and noses. Hungry ghosts with specific burdens have many beings residing on each hungry ghost's body, and they suffer because they appear to eat the hungry ghost's blood and flesh. So it is said. In addition, there are many different views on this. Animals are divided into two types: those who live in groups and those who are scattered. Humans refer to the beings belonging to the four continents. They have three types of suffering: fundamental suffering, the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the suffering of conditioning. In particular, there are the four sufferings of birth, old age, sickness, and death. Specifically, there are the four branch sufferings: meeting with enemies (Tibetan: དགྲ་སྡང་,梵文天城体:द्वेष,梵文罗马拟音:dveṣa,literal meaning: hatred), separation from loved ones (Tibetan: གཉེན་དང་འབྲལ་,梵文天城体:वियोग,梵文罗马拟音:viyoga, literal meaning: separation), not getting what one wants (Tibetan: འདོད་པ་མི་འགྲུབ་,梵文天城体:असिद्ध,梵文罗马拟音:asiddha, literal meaning: unfulfilled), and encountering what one does not want (Tibetan: མི་འདོད་,梵文天城体:अनिष्ट,梵文罗马拟音:aniṣṭa,literal meaning: unwanted). These refer to the four branch sufferings, and so on. Asuras are always jealous of the wealth of the gods, and their bodies and minds do not have a moment of peace. For the gods of the desire realm, the "Letter to a Friend" says: The color of the body becomes unsightly, dislike for the seat (Tibetan: སྟན་ལ་མི་དགའ་), the flower garland withers (Tibetan: མེ་ཏོག་ཕྲེང་), the clothes become stained, and dust appears on the body that was not there before. These are the five signs of decline of the gods. As the sutras say, they will experience the suffering of falling for a long time. The gods of the form and formless realms, after the power of their contaminated virtuous deeds is exhausted, will fall into the lower realms again. Know that they experience countless sufferings.

One should generate a genuine intention to accomplish the rainbow body state. Furthermore, if one wishes to pursue liberation, then in practicing the supreme Dharma, one must also, as explained in the commentaries, be free from the four obstacles of demons and possess the five pure conducive conditions. As an antidote to the demon of afflictions, one should identify which affliction is most dominant in one's own mindstream and then focus on eradicating it. The antidote to the demon of the aggregates is to abandon attachment to grasping and the grasped. As an antidote to the demon of the sons of the gods, one should reduce unnecessary mental distractions as much as possible. As an antidote to the demon of death, one must also know to strive for methods of averting death, both internal and external. Beyond that, in most instructions on Mahamudra and Dzogchen, there are methods for turning the mind away from attachment to this life, such as the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment; methods for turning the mind away from laziness and idleness, such as death and impermanence; methods for turning the mind away from wasting leisure and endowment, such as the law of karma; and methods for turning the mind away from clinging to samsara as happiness, such as contemplating the faults of samsara. These are known as the four common preliminaries that turn the mind. In addition, among the three appearances of the preliminary practices of Lamdre (Path and Result), to generate revulsion towards impure appearances, there are teachings on the faults of samsara; to initiate diligence, there are teachings on the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment and its easy destruction; and to demonstrate what to adopt and abandon, there are teachings on the results of black and white karma. For example, the Lamrim (Stages of the Path) contains almost all the meaning of the paths of the lesser and intermediate beings. Furthermore, when actually practicing the actual path, the root of the path is refuge. Among the two vehicles, the Great Vehicle and the Lesser Vehicle, here, taking the Great Vehicle as the main focus, it is explained with "cause 1, place 2, person 3, manner, result, and six types of training." First, the cause is: one's own fear of samsara, faith in the qualities of the Three Jewels, and compassion focused on all other sentient beings, these three. The place is: the Buddha is the nature of the three bodies, the Dharma is the collection of the Great Vehicle, and the Sangha possesses the two qualities of wisdom and liberation. The person is: all sentient beings, led by oneself. The manner is: taking the Buddha as the teacher, the Dharma as the path, and the Sangha as the friend who helps in practicing the path, taking refuge from now until enlightenment.
