The abandoned instructions—interdependent origination. The five-fold profound path of Guru Yoga, a precious instruction for all, is like the main scripture, while other inconceivable instructions are like annotations. In general, the meaning of the term "Kagyu" is: Lord Dagpo Rinpoche Sonam Rinchen first partook of the nectar of the Kadampa teachings. Later, he entered the precious lineage of Mahamudra and attained realization. Therefore, it is said that Kagyu means the confluence and fusion of the Kadampa and Mahamudra like two rivers. All phenomena grasped are empty in their own essence. The mind that grasps is also free from elaboration and empty. In the state free from elaboration, luminous emptiness is unwavering. This is the main practice of the pacifying Dharma. In general, the methods of guiding on this path according to the faculties of beings are inconceivable, but briefly, according to the instructions of the "Seven Perfections and Seven": First, one must be matured through the four profound symbolic empowerments. For those of superior faculties, one attains Buddhahood in one lifetime by directly seeing the natural state of the innate mind, beyond grasping and being grasped, without alteration. This is the white (one) guidance—the key to naked awareness. For those of intermediate faculties, one perfects the path of the four Kayas of the Guru by practicing the bindu of equality of the three doors, thereby accomplishing the four Kayas through breakthrough. This is the red (two) guidance—the key to unwavering devotion. For those of inferior faculties, one obtains the five paths of gradual entry. This is the black guidance—the key to subtle discernment of instructions. Among the latter: The outer characteristic instructions, summarizing the eight points into one root, and practicing the five paths on one seat, one progresses (three) on the path of accumulation through mind training. The father tantra, completing the five stages of the path of moving the winds on one seat, thereby enters the street of asceticism of the path of preparation. The mother tantra, meditating on the four mudras completely on one seat according to the instructions of bliss and experience, thereby cuts off the continuation with the path of seeing. The instructions of the essential meaning, meditating on the four yogas (six) paths and the four samadhis completely on one seat, thereby brings forth the experience of the path of meditation as one taste. The instructions of self-liberation of awareness, meditating on the six branches (seven) of union completely on one seat, thereby obtains the result of the path of ultimate non-practice. The meaning of "Pacifying" is: Most of the guiding methods that have come to Tibet first cause the disciples to turn away from negativity, and then begin to adjust their mind stream.

Its main function is to pacify afflictions. Here, it refers to the sufferings such as having a lowly body and being afflicted with diseases due to the influence of past karma. It can immediately pacify these sufferings, thereby making one able to endure practice. Therefore, it is called "Supreme Dharma Pacifying Suffering." As it is said in the Mother Tantra: "The mantra that completely pacifies all suffering." And as it is said in the Manjushri Illusion Net: "Pacify suffering with three sufferings, Obtain the endless liberation of the three realms, Be completely liberated from all obscurations, Abide in equality like the sky." And so on, it is named based on these. Its essence is the Prajnaparamita that is in accordance with mantra, which is a special instruction that combines the profound essence of all sutras and tantras into one. Its main basis is the general sutras, such as the extensive, intermediate, and concise three sections of the Prajnaparamita Sutra, and in particular, the Sutra of the Play of the Water River. The great scholar Kamalashila, also known as the holy protector of beings Buddha, who was born in Zara Sangar in the Beta region of India, listened to all the profound instructions from fifty-four male and female accomplished masters and devoted himself to single-pointed practice. He saw the faces of the twelve Sugatas and thirty-six miraculous Dakini Lamas, etc. He attained the common accomplishment of the eight great siddhis, and the supreme accomplishment of the wisdom of the great path of seeing. This is his special supreme instruction. In Tibet, through language and words, he taught in the past, present, and future in a way that suited the faculties of each individual to be tamed. In this land of snow mountains, the lineage is divided into three stages. The first lineage, the Holy One gave the three sections of the Pacifying Lamp Treatise to Kashmir Jnana Guhya. Both he and the Holy One gave it to Jetsun Ongpo Lotsawa. Jnana Guhya explained it to Purang Lochung, etc. The second lineage, Ma Chokyi Sherab transmitted the Mahamudra Dharma category, Sochung Gedun Bar transmitted the direct seeing of awareness, Kam Tsultrim Gyaltsen transmitted the thought transformation path-taking instruction, etc., the Ma So Kam three branches and their sub-branches. The third lineage, Lama Dampa Phyarchen introduced the Prajnaparamita as two types, with and without meditation, and cut off elaboration with the three, doctrine, sutra combination, and meaning sections. Dampa Phyarchung transmitted the instruction of non-duality of mantra and Prajnaparamita.
