Through meditation, the first bhumi is attained on the path of seeing, and then by meditating on the eightfold noble path, such as right view, one progresses from the second to the tenth bhumi. These are also based on the six paramitas, with the addition of the four: skillful means, power, aspiration, and wisdom, which are practiced sequentially and primarily from the first bhumi onwards. Thus, the four paths of learning are completed by the distinction of bodhicitta, with the sharpest faculties requiring three countless kalpas, the middling requiring seven, and even the dullest requiring thirty-three to finally complete. Having completely destroyed the two obscurations along with their habitual tendencies, one goes to the path of no more learning, where no more learning is needed. Having arrived there, the three kayas, the five wisdoms, and their qualities, the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the eighteen unshared qualities, the five uncontaminated aggregates, and all the collections of qualities are spontaneously accomplished, and the unsurpassed essence of enlightenment is attained. Thus, the system of the three causal vehicles has been briefly explained. Now, to ascertain the resultant Vajrayana, there are three points: how it is superior to the cause, a general explanation of the division of the three tantras, and a detailed explanation of the order of the six classes of tantra. The first point is that, in general, the Indian (Arya-desha) masters each hold that there are seven or eleven superior dharmas. However, if all of these are summarized, the "Lamp for the Three Ways" states: "Although the goal is the same, there is no confusion, there are many methods and no difficulties, and it is influenced by those with sharp faculties, therefore the mantra vehicle is superior." As it is said, even though the ultimate goal is to attain the state of omniscient wisdom, it is superior through countless meditations with and without signs, through meditating on the wheel of the mandala, which has the characteristic of accomplishing the benefit of others, and through many special methods such as restraining the mind with uncontaminated morality. Similarly, one would need to give away countless things such as heads, hands, and feet by relying solely on the perfection of generosity. Here, it is accomplished merely through the specificity of the object of focus, therefore there is no difficulty. And, for individuals with sharp faculties, whichever affliction is strongest, they meditate on the corresponding deity, recite mantras, and especially without abandoning or transforming it, but with special methods.
